Description
Kaoru Toki is a first-year student at Ousai Academy and Kotomi Tsuda's first friend. Her lifelong clumsiness and poor sense of direction, rooted in childhood incidents like accidentally tucking her shirt into her underwear (a trauma she cites), shape her appearance: a perpetually sloppy uniform with an untucked shirt, unbuttoned jacket, and loose tie, and a preference for loose dark t-shirts with jeans or baggy shorts outside school.

Notably tall, just slightly shorter than Takatoshi Tsuda, she possesses a "boy-like" physique that doesn't trigger androphobia. Her long, dark shoulder-length hair is often pulled into a ponytail, with side-swept bangs covering her right eye, revealing sharp light brown eyes. She frequently keeps one hand in her skirt pocket, contributing to an initially intimidating, delinquent-like aura.

Despite her gruff exterior, deep voice, and brusque speech, Toki is fundamentally polite and kind. She demonstrates consideration by properly disposing of litter after a failed throw, offering her seat to an elderly man on transit, and commenting on everyday observations like finding a dog cute.

Her defining traits are chronic clumsiness ("dojikko") and terrible spatial awareness. She frequently wears clothes inside out, especially her school jacket and judo gi, and easily becomes lost—searching for the school cafeteria, jogging with the Judo Club, or getting off at the wrong train station en route to the Tsuda residence. These mishaps often stem from attempts to appear cool, like dramatically donning her jacket without checking its orientation or punching a coin mid-flip instead of catching it.

Martially adept, Toki possesses karate skills and confidence against multiple opponents. This expertise leads Mutsumi Mitsuba to recruit her into the Judo Club after a match where Toki initially dominates but ultimately loses. Though initially apathetic toward the club, she rediscovers her passion during this fight, later acknowledging she "hadn’t felt so fired up in a long time" and accepts membership. She becomes one of the few members capable of matching Mutsumi’s intensity and is entrusted to oversee the club during Mutsumi's absences. Toki also applies determined effort to her studies when needed.

Her relationships are marked by loyalty and respect. She shares a close, contrasting friendship with Kotomi Tsuda, balancing Kotomi’s extroversion with her own introversion, often engaging in comedic boke-tsukkomi exchanges; Kotomi frequently teases her about clumsiness, including sitting on embarrassing objects like half-eaten bread. Toki deeply respects Takatoshi Tsuda, calling him "Aniki" (big brother) for his reliability and intelligence, and interacts with him comfortably, unlike many female peers. Within the Judo Club, she respects seniors like Mutsumi and Chiri Nakazato but argues openly about training methods.

Additional traits include her hatred of sweets, proficiency in drawing, and avoidance of using names or titles—except addressing Judo Club seniors as "senpai" and referring to Takatoshi indirectly as "omae no aniki" (your big brother) when speaking to Kotomi. Her given name "Kaoru" is gender-neutral, reflecting her tomboyish identity.
