TV Special
Description
Fou first resembles a small, squirrel-like creature but is later revealed as Cath Palug, a figure from Arthurian legend. Originally a Beast of the Planet and the juvenile form of Beast IV, he resided with Merlin in Avalon until Merlin's sealing forced him out. In timelines with minimal human influence, he manifests as Primate Murder, linked to Altrouge Brunestud. Within the Fate/Grand Order timeline, he lives with the Chaldea Security Organization, accompanying Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight on their missions.
His true nature involves presiding over the "Logos of Comparison," gaining strength by exceeding opponents' power through consuming human envy and regret. As a Beast of Calamity, he matures via human conflict yet poses no threat without human civilization. Visually, he appears as a cute animal with evolving purple-pink horns and a multicolored tail, though unchecked maturation transforms him into a monstrous form.
Fou exhibits intense hostility towards Merlin, blaming him for the expulsion from Avalon. Despite this animosity, he displays traits reminiscent of Merlin, including making suggestive remarks toward Mash. He consistently attacks Merlin on sight yet acts as a conduit for Merlin's aid during critical battles, such as against Cú Chulainn Alter in North America.
In the Babylonia Singularity, Fou actively participates. He teleports Ana to safety when Enkidu targets her, recognizing her weapon's threat to immortals. His identity as a Beast is exposed by Ishtar and Ereshkigal. He demonstrates abilities like breashing powerful barriers such as the Chains of Heaven and entering hazardous realms like Nega-Genesis to assist allies.
His defining moment follows Mash's sacrifice in the Solomon Singularity. Fou expends centuries of accumulated magical energy to perform a "Complete Resurrection of the Dead," transferring his "Force of Providence" to revive Mash. This act sacrifices his sapience and Beast characteristics, reducing him to an animal-like state. He later congratulates Chaldea for nonviolently overcoming Beast IV.
Despite this sacrifice, residual abilities emerge later. He communicates with Cavall II in the Shinjuku Singularity to strategize against Hessian Lobo and relays information to Mash without her Animal Communication skill. He avoids the Avalon le Fae Lostbelt but guides characters through the Spiritual Tomb of Albion via Merlin's transformation. In the Nahui Mictlan Lostbelt, he vanishes to evade conflict with ORT. Later, he contacts Mash in dreams during the Ordeal Call, warning her of a critical choice between her role as Shielder and personal losses, though she forgets the dream upon waking.
Fou retains sensory capacities post-resurrection, detecting U-Olga Marie's presence ahead of Chaldea's instruments. His ability to sense threats and communicate cryptically persists despite the loss of his Beast nature.
