Description
Mikan Hinatsuki is a 15-year-old magical girl of the Light Clan (later turning 16), standing 158 cm tall, initially allied with Momo Chiyoda. Her family owns the relatively wealthy Hinatsuki Foods citrus processing factory. Ten years prior, financial struggles in Sakuragaoka City led her father to summon a demon for help, inadvertently cursing Mikan. This curse, meant as protection but grown uncontrollable, triggers minor misfortunes for people near her whenever heightened emotions like excitement, nervousness, or anxiety increase her heart rate. Past incidents, including accidentally harming her mother and damaging the factory, forced the family's temporary relocation.

Mikan combines reliability with pronounced tsundere tendencies, especially around Momo, whom she deeply admires. Praise visibly flusters her, often prompting defensive rejections. Despite a self-assured exterior, she harbors private anxiety about her curse's effects, initially leading to social distance. She exhibits strong responsibility, supporting peers like Yuko Yoshida and encouraging them to rely on her "like a big sister." Her defining quirk is an intense obsession with citrus fruits, incorporated into all food and drinks, carried constantly, used as gifts or snacks, and driving her failed attempt to establish a "Citrus Cultivation Club" due to trees' long growth cycle.

Operating as "Citrus Lady," Mikan wields a wooden crossbow. Her signature "Sunrise Arrow" attack involves her navigator, a golden poison arrow frog named Michael, transforming into a lethal arrow. She excels as a long-range marksman, accurate up to a kilometer, though nervousness impairs close-range accuracy. Even untransformed, she possesses enhanced abilities, like running 50 meters in six seconds. The curse remains central, causing minor accidents for acquaintances during her emotional fluctuations.

Her relationships are marked by loyalty and gradual trust-building. She reveres Momo, enthusiastically recounting her deeds and displaying protectiveness despite tsundere remarks. After transferring to Momo and Yuko's school, she befriends Yuko Yoshida, Anri Sata, and others, participating in committees and events. The curse initially strained connections, but she worked to maintain closeness while managing emotions. A pivotal confrontation revealed the curse's origin: the spirit Ugallu, manifesting misfortunes to protect Mikan. Assisted by Yuko and Momo in a ritual, Ugallu was separated from Mikan's body, assuming physical form as Mikan's adoptive daughter, resolving the curse's uncontrolled effects and symbolizing Mikan's acceptance of support.

Mikan's development focuses on overcoming isolationist tendencies born from her curse. Initially believing solitude minimized harm, interventions from Momo and Yuko reinforced the value of interdependence. Her growth shows in increased openness with friends and proactive efforts to address the curse's source. School life reflects integration through sports committees, sharing local citrus products, and navigating social clumsiness earnestly. Ugallu's resolution allows Mikan to embrace relationships without fear, solidifying her as a resilient, nurturing figure within her found family.
