Description
Makino Aikawa possesses fair skin, dark purple eyes, and matching short hair, typically wearing black earphones connected to an MP3 player emitting nature sounds. His distinctive black-and-white checker-patterned eye mask features green stripes, and he styles his school uniform fashionably with a large black knit sweater layered over a gray dress shirt and black necktie.

His childhood involved parental neglect due to constant arguments, leading him to cover his ears for escape. The girl next door, Sumire Koizumi, cared for him during these absences, though he never confessed his feelings. Her eventual marriage to another intensified his sense of rejection, driving him to seek solace in dating simulation games where rejection was impossible.

In the 13th District group, Makino maintains a calm, distant demeanor initially, disillusioned with human connections. He speaks minimally—around 100 words daily—and relies on his "Clear Eyes" ability: anyone sustaining eye contact for five seconds temporarily falls in love, regardless of gender or age, with effects varying in duration and requiring cooldowns afterward.

Interactions with peers, especially Akatsuki Iride, spur his emotional growth. While unconscious, Akatsuki urges him to accept unreciprocated love and acknowledge existing support, helping Makino process his unresolved feelings for Sumire. He gradually engages more openly, forming trusting bonds with Zakuro Oshigiri and Yuzu Roromori—the first he met in the game—and Himiko Inaba, who, alongside Zakuro, often protects him.

Makino excels in art and dating sims, favoring hobbies like listening to nature sounds and sleeping. He enjoys stuffed cabbage rolls and spring rolls but avoids sour flavors, dislikes crowds, and exhibits apathy toward minor discomforts like paper cuts or sales calls, which he silences. He displays unexplained fondness for afro hairstyles and steel wool due to its resemblance to afro texture. In groups, he subtly cares for others—watching over depressed friends or sharing food—though he misinterprets social gestures like receiving chocolates as lost items.

He assigns hair-focused nicknames to peers, such as "Afro" for Anya Kudou, and deeply trusts Himiko for maintaining group order. He participates in traditions like Setsubun bean-catching (using his mouth) and sways or falls asleep in movie theaters.
