Description
Yū Ishigami, a first-year student at Shuchi'in Academy, serves as treasurer of the student council. He is the second son of a small toy manufacturing company president, with his mother working as a florist; this family connection provides his knowledge of flower language, sultera being his preferred bloom. His enrollment at the prestigious Shuchi'in resulted from his father's pursuit of social prestige, despite the family's modest academic background.

Physically slim, Ishigami sports chin-length black hair deliberately covering the left side of his face, acting as a barrier against social interaction and manifesting his fear of others. A gloomy or tired expression often defines his appearance, accentuated by black eyes. He frequently wears headphones around his neck and favors loose-fitting school uniforms. Though he maintained a more athletic build with shorter hair in middle school, years of inactivity led to muscle loss.

Ishigami's personality reflects cynicism, social withdrawal, and self-deprecation, stemming from a traumatic middle school incident. He possesses a strong sense of justice yet struggles with social norms, often unintentionally vocalizing blunt observations about others' insecurities—termed "landmines"—which alienates peers. He harbors discomfort toward conventional youth activities like club events and romantic relationships, frequently deriding "normies." Beneath the negativity lies underlying kindness, demonstrated by secretly assisting others at personal cost. His interests include video games, manga, and anime culture, though he conceals these passions to avoid the otaku label. Academically, he initially ranked 197th in his year but climbed to 8th through tutoring, revealing latent intelligence and sharp problem-solving skills, particularly in data analysis and documentation for council operations.

A pivotal event shaped Ishigami's past: during middle school, he intervened to protect classmate Kyoko Ootomo from her cheating boyfriend, Ko Ogino. Confronting Ogino led to a physical altercation. Ogino then fabricated a narrative accusing Ishigami of jealousy-driven violence, resulting in Ishigami's suspension and widespread ostracization. Refusing to write a false apology letter, he became a shut-in, remaining isolated until high school. The disciplinary committee, led by Miko Iino, advocated for his admission to Shuchi'in's high school division. Student council president Miyuki Shirogane later uncovered the truth, recruited Ishigami as treasurer, and facilitated his reintegration.

Within the student council, Ishigami initially worked remotely due to social anxiety but gradually became essential. His key relationships evolved:
- Miyuki Shirogane earned his deepest trust by providing unwavering support after uncovering the middle school incident truth.
- Kaguya Shinomiya initially terrified him, but her academic mentorship and genuine concern fostered mutual respect.
- Chika Fujiwara maintained a rivalry marked by reciprocal teasing, despite effective collaboration.
- Miko Iino outwardly clashed with him due to her initial perception of him as a delinquent, unaware of his anonymous acts of support—like advocating for debate-style student council elections to accommodate her stage fright. Their dynamic shifted when she appointed him vice president after her election as council president.

Ishigami joined the cheer club during a sports festival, developing romantic feelings for third-year student Tsubame Koyasu. He inadvertently confessed during the cultural festival by gifting her a heart-shaped present, a gesture misinterpreted under school tradition. After Tsubame formally rejected him, citing age differences and platonic feelings, he acknowledged emerging feelings for Iino. His personal growth included reconciling with his family, who gradually accepted his version of the middle school events, and assisting with their business's accounting.

Trivia notes include his gaming proficiency (Apex Legends, Diamond tier), LINE profile featuring an anime character, switch from briefs to boxers after embarrassment by Fujiwara, and shared birthday with Chika Fujiwara on March 3. His character design incorporates speech bubbles with rough edges early in the series, transitioning to rounded corners later.
