Yugiri was a legendary oiran, a high-ranking courtesan, active during Japan's Bakumatsu period within the Meiji era, born November 23, 1863. Renowned for her beauty, elegance, dancing, musical skill (especially the shamisen), and swordsmanship, her exorbitant prices in Tokyo became unsustainable for her employers. A senior government official purchased her freedom, enabling her move to Saga Prefecture. Following his death, she lived in isolation until meeting revolutionary Kiichi Momozaki, who sought Saga's independence after its annexation by Nagasaki post the failed 1874 Saga Rebellion. Yugiri grew deeply invested in Kiichi's cause, bonding closely with him and receiving a red comb as a gift. When Kiichi's associate Itō betrayed their movement to authorities, Yugiri killed Itō with a hidden sword inside her shamisen. She then took sole responsibility for the rebellion to protect Kiichi, leading to her execution by beheading on December 28, 1882, at age 19. Before dying, she wrote a letter asking the sage Jofuku to tell Kiichi she had "escaped Saga safely," ensuring he could continue rebuilding Saga without persecution. Her sacrifice directly enabled Saga's eventual restoration. Resurrected over a century later as a zombie by Kotaro Tatsumi, Yugiri awoke alongside Saki Nikaido. She retains her original light-brown hair styled in a bow with shoulder-length locks, light rusty eyes, and a voluptuous figure (measurements 94-62-89 cm / 37-24-35 in). Her zombie form features blue-gray skin, red eyes, and a scar around her neck. Adapting calmly to modern society despite its differences from her era, she states, "I found that getting confused doesn’t help much, I’ll just relax and take things as they come." Her personality exhibits composure, maturity, and observational intelligence, deducing Kotaro’s personal connection to Sakura Minamoto. She remains unflappable during crises, shows maternal warmth to younger group members like Lily Hoshikawa, and uses physical interventions (like slapping Sakura) to motivate teammates during emotional lows. Within the idol group Franchouchou, Yugiri utilizes her historical skills for performances, including acrobatics, traditional dance, and combat-inspired choreography. Her zombie abilities encompass detachable limbs (rarely used), phosphorescent vision, elemental absorption (e.g., medicinal patches enhancing flexibility), and enhanced strength, notably delivering powerful slaps. In Season 2, she works part-time as a bartender, frequently serving Policeman A, who interacts with her unaware of her zombie identity. Her narrative arc in *Revenge* (Episodes 8–9) reveals her past through an extended flashback, clarifying her ties to Saga’s "curse" – a historical pattern of tragedy befalling those who could uplift the region. This lore connects to Kotaro’s mission and Franchouchou’s role in thwarting Saga’s prophesied destruction. During a typhoon crisis, Yugiri participates in a climactic concert symbolizing resilience, reinforcing her thematic association with Saga’s cyclical struggles. Manga spin-offs (*Nostalgic Romance Edition*, *Future Development Edition*) depict her daily interactions: lighting fires using oiran-era techniques, wearing Yayoi-period clothing, and preparing decorative meals for the group, emphasizing her integration into modern idol activities while retaining traditional grace.
