Description
Reina appears as a recurring character in the anime series *Pokémon Origins*. She dedicates herself as a volunteer at the Lavender Volunteer Pokémon House, a facility founded by Mr. Fuji to care for abandoned and orphaned Pokémon. Her responsibilities involve assisting with the daily operations of the house and tending to the resident Pokémon.
Reina first encounters Red at Mr. Fuji's Pokémon House, explaining Mr. Fuji's role and the facility's purpose. She specifically tells Red about an orphaned Cubone under their care, whose mother was killed by Team Rocket. When Team Rocket kidnaps Mr. Fuji and holds him captive in the Pokémon Tower, Reina actively participates in efforts to rescue him. She openly criticizes the townspeople for their reluctance to confront Team Rocket or the tower's ghostly inhabitants, demonstrating strong moral conviction.
Following the Cubone's escape into the Pokémon Tower after becoming agitated, Reina pursues it. During the confrontation with Team Rocket inside the tower, she helps keep the Cubone calm. After Team Rocket's defeat, she joins other townspeople in seeing Red off. Later, she expresses concern for Red's safety upon learning he went to confront Mewtwo in Cerulean Cave, showing her care for those she considers friends.
Reina develops a significant bond with the orphaned Cubone. This Cubone initially distrusted all humans except Mr. Fuji after its mother's death. During the events in the Pokémon Tower, the Cubone encounters its mother's spirit and helps calm her, allowing the spirit to pass on peacefully. Afterwards, the Cubone assists in battling Team Rocket and forms a trusting relationship with Reina.
In the core Pokémon games (Generation I and II and their remakes), a character matching Reina's description and role appears as a non-playable character in Mr. Fuji's house. While not explicitly named in the games, this character shares identical narrative functions and dialogue consistent with Reina's anime portrayal. The game character refers to Mr. Fuji as "Grandpa," suggesting a familial relationship. Her in-game quotes consistently emphasize Mr. Fuji's kindness toward abandoned Pokémon and criticize people who neglect their Pokémon. After Team Rocket is driven from the Pokémon Tower, her dialogue expresses warmth and affection toward the Pokémon in their care.
The Lavender Volunteer Pokémon House where Reina works features a dedicated play area for Pokémon and facilities for their care. The house provides sanctuary to various abandoned Pokémon, including the orphaned Cubone affected by Team Rocket's actions at the Pokémon Tower. Reina's involvement with this Cubone forms a central part of her character arc across both anime and game representations.
