OVA
Description
Emilia is a central character in the Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Memory Snow OVA, where she appears during a period of respite at Roswaal Manor. She is a half-elf with long silver hair and amethyst eyes, features that make her a target for severe societal prejudice across the kingdom of Lugunica because of her striking resemblance to the feared Witch of Envy, Satella. In Memory Snow, a story that takes place after the events at the manor but before the Royal Selection, Emilia is shown enjoying a rare moment of peace with her companions.

Her background is marked by profound tragedy and isolation. Emilia spent much of her early life in Elior Forest under the care of her aunt, Fortuna, and a father figure named Geuse. A traumatic attack by the Witch Cult figures Pandora and Regulus led to Fortuna's death and Geuse's descent into madness, turning him into the Sin Archbishop of Sloth. Overcome with grief, Emilia unleashed a catastrophic wave of uncontrollable magic that froze the entire forest, its inhabitants, and herself in ice for an unspecified period. Her memories of these events were later altered by Pandora. Despite this, a core part of her motivation for entering the Royal Selection as a candidate to become ruler is to gain access to the Dragon's Blood, a resource she believes can safely thaw Elior Forest and its frozen elves as an act of atonement.

Emilia's personality is defined by an innate kindness and a resolute desire to be judged on her own merits rather than her heritage. She possesses a strong sense of justice but also exhibits a sheltered naivety due to her isolated upbringing, which often manifests as adorkable or childlike behavior, particularly during her interactions with Subaru. In Memory Snow, this side of her is prominently featured as she participates in a snow festival on the manor grounds, crafting snow sculptures with a childlike enthusiasm alongside Subaru, Rem, and Ram. Later at a banquet, her low tolerance for alcohol becomes evident when she accidentally consumes a spiked drink meant for Subaru, leading her to become playfully intoxicated before falling asleep using his lap as a pillow. The OVA concludes on a heartwarming note as she postpones and then finally enjoys a special date with Subaru. Beneath this gentle exterior, however, lies a stern resolve; she is willing to use lethal force against genuine threats to herself or those she cares about.

Her key relationships are central to her character. The artificial spirit Puck serves as her contracted partner and surrogate father, providing her with mental support when others shunned her and acting as her protector. Her love for him is profound; she even keeps her hair long because he once praised it. When Puck is forced to break their contract to allow her to recover her sealed memories, she is initially thrown into despair. The other most significant relationship is with Natsuki Subaru. Initially grateful for his acceptance and acknowledgment of her existence, their bond deepens over time. She becomes his primary emotional support, and he becomes hers, eventually leading her to officially name him as her knight. Their relationship is not without conflict, as she deeply worries about his self-sacrificial and reckless tendencies, which causes friction between them.

Emilia's notable abilities are rooted in a high affinity for spirit arts and potent ice magic. She can command numerous quasi-spirits and has demonstrated a variety of spells, including Huma for creating ice barriers, Ul Huma for massive ice pillars, and Al Huma for launching ice spears. She can also conjure weapons made of ice. A specialized technique known as Ice Flower creates blood-sucking ice flowers on an opponent's wounds. The most devastating display of her power remains the accidental, large-scale freezing of Elior Forest from her past.

Her character development is substantial and often painful. At the Sanctuary, she is forced to confront her sealed memories and suffers mental breakdowns before ultimately overcoming the trials and regaining her past. This process allows her to wield her magic independently for the first time without Puck as a crutch. Her growth is a journey from a lonely, ostracized half-elf reliant on a spirit partner to a more self-assured royal candidate capable of confronting her tragic history and fighting for a future she wants to build with her newly formed family and friends.
