Description
Takao, a lanky middle school student with short black hair, buck teeth, and glasses concealing his eyes, navigates friendships and unspoken emotions with a blend of awkwardness and earnestness. A close companion to Nishikata, he maintains respectful boundaries, carefully avoiding disruptions during Nishikata’s exchanges with Takagi. His anxiety surfaces in frustrations over Valentine’s Day disappointments, contrasting his peers’ experiences.

He shares a steadfast bond with Kimura, their camaraderie solidified by shared disdain for PE drills and adventures like fishing trips, waterpark visits, and summer festivals. Hamaguchi joins their circle, with group swims and gaming sessions punctuating their routines. Yet Takao’s quiet yearning for Sanae Tsukimoto anchors his emotional arc—a crush laid bare by Hamaguchi’s teasing, met with flustered denials. A beach outing amplifies his bashfulness when he blushes upon stumbling into Sanae, unprepared for her presence.

Their interactions oscillate between tension and ambiguity: a mocking comment about letter-writing girls provokes Sanae’s sharp kick, leaving their dynamic unresolved. While routine school life and leisure define his days, his past and family remain unmentioned. Across stories, he persists as a loyal, if socially clumsy, friend—his role steady, his feelings for Sanae lingering beneath layers of embarrassment, uncharted and unconfessed.
