TV Special
Description
Boa Hancock rules as empress of Amazon Lily, commanding both the Kuja tribe and the Kuja Pirates. At age twelve, she and her sisters were captured by human traffickers, enduring four years of enslavement by the World Nobles in Mary Geoise. There, she was force-fed the Paramecia-type Mero Mero no Mi Devil Fruit, granting her the power to petrify those who feel lust towards her. Fisher Tiger’s raid on Mary Geoise enabled her escape; Silvers Rayleigh and Shakuyaku later returned her to Amazon Lily, though the ordeal left deep trauma and distrust, particularly towards men and the World Government. To hide the Celestial Dragon slave brand on her back, she spread a lie that it was a Gorgon’s curse, earning her and her sisters the moniker "Gorgon Sisters."

Assuming leadership of the Kuja at eighteen, Hancock’s combat prowess earned her an 80,000,000 berry bounty after a single campaign. This prompted the World Government to invite her into the Seven Warlords of the Sea, a position she accepted to protect Amazon Lily from interference. Her initial arrogance and cruelty, claiming her beauty excused any selfish act, masked profound vulnerability stemming from her enslavement, manifesting as extreme defensiveness over her past.

Meeting Monkey D. Luffy dramatically shifted her character. He witnessed her brand during a bath in Amazon Lily, remained immune to her Devil Fruit power, and protected her sister Sandersonia’s brand in combat. Testing him by forcing a choice between saving petrified allies or securing his own escape, his selfless choice astonished her. Learning Luffy had assaulted a World Noble solidified her respect, leading her to confide her traumatic history. His response—hating only the Celestial Dragons, not their victims—catalyzed her emotional transformation. She developed "Love Sickness," a condition afflicting past Kuja empresses signifying genuine romantic attachment. This motivated her to aid Luffy’s infiltration of Impel Down and participation in the Marineford War, risking her Warlord status.

In the 3D2Y special, Hancock assisted Luffy after Ace’s death, providing refuge on Amazon Lily and later aiding his mission to reclaim a stolen Kuja treasure, confronting World Nobles alongside him. Her combat abilities featured prominently: she employed Perfume Femur kicks infused with Busoshoku Haki to bypass Logia defenses and used her Mero Mero no Mi to petrify opponents. Her fighting style integrated her snake, Salome, for sensing threats and battlefield control. Visually, she wore a distinct purple-and-gold dress.

Following the timeskip, the abolition of the Seven Warlords nullified her treaty with the World Government, reinstating her bounty at 1,659,000,000 berries. She repelled invasions by Marines and the Blackbeard Pirates, though Blackbeard’s Yami Yami no Mi nullification abilities forced a temporary stalemate. Recognizing her presence endangered Amazon Lily, she arranged for Rayleigh and Shakuyaku to protect the island while departing to reunite with Luffy. Her personality showed lasting changes: treating her people with increased kindness, collaborating on communal tasks like food preparation, and showing tolerance toward male allies like Trafalgar Law. Despite Luffy’s obliviousness to her romantic feelings, her loyalty to him remained unwavering.
