Description
Kirigaya Suguha, known as Leafa in ALfheim Online (ALO), is the cousin and adoptive sister of Kirigaya Kazuto (Kirito). After Kazuto's biological parents died in an accident, Suguha's parents raised them together. Both practiced kendo under their grandfather, a former police officer and champion. Kazuto quit kendo after two years, embraced technology, and distanced himself upon learning they weren't biological siblings. Suguha continued kendo, achieving national quarter-finalist status partly to shield Kazuto from their grandfather's disappointment.
Initially disliking VRMMOs for obscuring reality, as she believed happened to Kazuto, Suguha joined ALO after he was trapped in Sword Art Online, seeking to understand his world. Guided by classmate Nagata Shinichi (Recon), she chose the Sylph race, becoming a formidable warrior and the strongest Sylph. Her kendo skills translated into combat prowess, and her passion for flying earned her the nickname "Speedaholic" from Recon.
Physically, Suguha has short black hair, dark grey eyes, and a muscular build from kendo. Her Leafa avatar features long blonde hair, green eyes, pointed ears, and green-and-white attire. During Project Alicization, she temporarily used the "Terraria" account, an avatar with long blonde hair, green eyes, and silver armor over grassy-colored clothing.
Suguha is generally upbeat, outgoing, and sociable, but becomes aggressive when provoked, like punching Recon after an unwanted advance. Despite her resilience, she shows fragility concerning Kazuto, breaking down upon seeing him comatose after SAO and entering depression upon discovering Kirito was Kazuto. She often hides sadness behind positivity, retreating to cry privately.
In the Fairy Dance arc, Leafa met Kirito in ALO unaware of his identity and aided his quest to reach the World Tree to rescue Asuna. Learning Kirito was Kazuto, she dueled him; both discarded weapons and embraced midair, symbolizing her acceptance of his love for Asuna before helping him breach the World Tree. Later, she regularly played ALO with Kirito, Asuna, and others. In the spin-off *Girls' Ops*, she formed a team with Silica and Lisbeth while Kirito and Asuna were unavailable.
During Alicization, after Kazuto suffered brain damage, Suguha infiltrated the Ocean Turtle facility with Asuna. Using an STL, she dived into the Underworld as Terraria, a "Goddess of the Earth" Super Account with high durability and regeneration. She assisted Kirito in the War of Underworld, utilizing "Sacred Arts" for healing and elemental manipulation. Her abilities included spatial manipulation and homing attacks enhanced by "Incarnation," a willpower-based reality-altering force. She fought allies against invaders like Gabriel Miller (Subtilizer), leveraging near-instant healing to withstand severe injuries like limb loss or brain trauma.
A childhood incident where Kazuto saved her from a backyard pond left Suguha with a fear of water until the Fairy Dance arc's conclusion. Her relationship with Kazuto evolved from estrangement to mutual support, accepting his bond with Asuna while remaining a close companion in both reality and virtual worlds.
