Description
Mametchi is the central character of the 2007 animated film Tamagotchi: The Movie. He is a small, white, egg-shaped Tamagotchi with a single blue-tipped antenna on his head, large oval eyes, and pink cheeks. He belongs to the Mame family and is known for his exceptional intelligence, with an IQ of around 250, and his kind-hearted, polite demeanor. Mametchi is a prolific inventor who loves creating helpful gadgets, though his inventions often malfunction or explode in comedic ways. He is also famously tone-deaf and a poor singer and painter, which occasionally causes embarrassment.
In the film's story, Mametchi has just completed his latest invention, the Transporter Machine. A mishap with the machine accidentally brings a human girl from Earth named Tanpopo to Tamagotchi Planet. Mametchi's primary motivation throughout the movie stems from a deep-seated fear of the dark, which he developed after being trapped in a hole as a young child. He built the Transporter Machine in an attempt to create a personal sun that would always provide him with light, resulting in his later invention of MameSunnytchi, a small artificial sun that follows him everywhere. Additionally, Mametchi is about to become an older brother, and he worries that his fear of the dark will make him an embarrassment to his new sibling. The arrival of his baby sister, Chamametchi, becomes a key part of his emotional arc.
Mametchi's role in the story is that of a protagonist and a problem-solver. He takes responsibility when his creation of MameSunnytchi inadvertently causes the real sun, Sunnitchi, to leave Tamagotchi Planet, plunging the world into cold and darkness. He decides to launch a rocket into space to find Sunnitchi and administer medicine to the ailing planet. Throughout the journey, he navigates his relationship with his younger sister, who he initially snaps at out of frustration but later reconciles with, learning patience and the importance of family. His key relationships include his best friends Memetchi and Kuchipatchi, who support him loyally, and Tanpopo, who helps him understand the responsibilities of being an older sibling. He also interacts with his parents, Papamametchi and Mamametchi, and his rival-like counterpart, KuroMametchi, who aids in rescuing Chamametchi's egg.
Mametchi's development in the film sees him confront and eventually overcome his fear of the dark. When the rocket is pulled toward a black hole (which is actually a sleeping Tamagotchi named Blackholetchi), Mametchi must summon the courage to help wake it. With encouragement from his friends, family, and the entire Tamagotchi Planet, he joins the effort and conquers his phobia. Notable abilities include his high intellect, engineering skills, and the capacity to build complex machines like the Transporter Machine, MameSunnytchi, and a space rocket. His inventions, though sometimes unreliable, are driven by a sincere desire to help others and solve problems. By the end of the film, Mametchi grows into a more confident, responsible, and emotionally mature character, ready to be a good older brother.
