Description
Displaced in time alongside other Gotham criminals by Gorilla Grodd's malfunctioning device, the Joker arrives in feudal Japan's Sengoku period two years before Batman. He immediately exploits the era's warfare, manipulating and overthrowing local feudal lords to seize control of the capital region of Edo. Establishing himself at Arkham Castle (formerly Edo Castle), he proclaims himself "Lord Joker," adopting the titles "Demon King" and "Diruku Tin Mao" (Most Powerful Man in Japan).

His classic appearance—white skin, green hair, yellow eyes with red irises, purple and green clothing—remains, adapted to his new role with a distinctive daimyo-style outfit and a mustache. His mannerisms incorporate theatrical Kabuki gestures.

Psychologically embodying chaotic psychopathy, his core drive is spreading chaos and misery, readily adapting to the feudal setting. Initially ambivalent about lordship, calling it no "aspiration," he fully embraces the power bestowed by circumstance, quipping about making "travel-ade" from "time-travel." He demonstrates willingness to drastically alter history, introducing coal-powered industrial technology centuries early. Characteristic overconfidence leads him to underestimate opponents, as noted by Robin. His relationship with Harley Quinn appears less overtly abusive; he treats her relatively decently, working alongside her to impersonate a mother and child ambushing Batman. However, the underlying manipulative nature resurfaces when special flowers he planted restore their memories after amnesia.

Functioning as a formidable warlord, he commands armies of samurai soldiers wearing his visage on their masks and possesses significant resources. His combat abilities are enhanced, demonstrating proficiency with period weaponry like razor-sharp fighting fans and katanas, engaging Batman effectively in sword duels. He retains trademark ingenuity with weaponized props like acid-squirting flowers. His major tactical achievement transforms Arkham Castle into a massive, mobile fortress robot. Later, he merges this with other villains' mechanized castles to create the colossal super robot "Lord Joker" for the final battle.

His arc involves consolidating power as the leading villain among the time-displaced Gotham criminals turned daimyo. Conflict escalates with Batman's arrival. He seemingly kills Batman during a river battle following Grodd's betrayal, though Batman is rescued by Bat Clan ninjas. An explosion during his escape with Harley Quinn causes temporary amnesia; they live peacefully as farmers for a month until his cultivated flowers restore their memories. He dramatically re-enters the final battle at the "Field of Hell," usurping control from Grodd and merging castles into the "Lord Joker" mech. Defeated by Batman using advanced ninjutsu, he and the other villains are returned to the present era.

He reappears later, facing Batman and allies in a new conflict involving an invasion by yakuza-style criminals and an alternate Justice League, indicating his enduring presence as a threat.
