Description
Airi Masaki, originally named Airi Magma, originates from the planet Airai, once a dominant galactic theocracy and empire. Airai's religion, sharing the planet's name, centered on ancient relics of a prehistoric civilization discovered there, which simultaneously advanced their technology. As the daughter of the planet's religious and imperial leader, Geira Magma, Airi held a hereditary leadership position within Airai's hierarchy.

The planet's doctrine initially worshiped the "Three Lives" (the Choushin goddesses), but its leaders sought a uniquely Airaian deity. This led to attempts to deify Airi's great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. After these failed, Airai plotted to usurp Jurai's goddess Tsunami by infiltrating its royal family. Schemes to marry Airi and an adopted Amaki family member—secretly an Airai agent—into Jurai's royalty collapsed due to scandals, including Airi's out-of-wedlock pregnancy and a failed arranged marriage, hastening Airai's decline.

The empire's downfall accelerated under the serial killer Widow, whose probability-altering abilities induced mass psychosis, triggering widespread killings and suicides. This sparked revolution and civil war, killing Airi's father. Factions blamed Airi for the disaster, forcing her and daughter Minaho to flee with assassins in pursuit. They secured asylum at the Galaxy Academy, where Airi attained a position of power that shielded them from retaliation.

Approximately 700 years ago, Airi enrolled at the Galaxy Police Academy, meeting and secretly marrying Jurai's crown prince Yosho despite his betrothal to half-sister Ayeka. Their union produced their first child, Minaho. When Yosho pursued pirate Ryoko to Earth and remained, Airi and Minaho waited centuries at Galaxy Police Headquarters before relocating to join him. Adopting the alias "Itsuki Masaki," she lived with Yosho (now Katsuhito Masaki) in post-WWII Japan, later bearing their second daughter, Kiyone Masaki.

After Kiyone's death, Airi left Earth to become Chairwoman of the Jurai office of the Galaxy Police. Collaborating closely with Jurai's political advisor Seto Kamiki Jurai, she handled administrative duties like composing Seto's memoirs and worked with Galaxy Police Academy headmistress Mikami. She visited Earth periodically for family events, such as introducing Tenchi to his grandmother and arranged fiancée Noike Kamiki Jurai.

Airi exhibits competence, sly humor, and a passion for cooking—often working at Galaxy Academy restaurants during free time. She harbors a strong aversion to terms like "grandmother," reacting with visible anger when addressed as such. The status of Airai's empire and religion remains undetermined. Though Airi and Minaho held hereditary leadership claims, their exile and the planet's blame toward them complicate this. Leadership may have passed to Airi's aunt, Keira Magma, a monastic nun who sheltered them during the civil war.
