Description
Tōru Taki is a human student and one of Takashi Natsume's closest friends. She has short dusty blonde hair and light brown eyes, a generally gentle expression, and stands 160 cm tall. Her appearance is often described as cute, and she typically wears casual, feminine clothing.

Taki is fundamentally happy, friendly, and optimistic, though a youkai's curse once forced her into silence to protect others, making her seem introverted and mysterious. Freed from the curse, she returned to her natural extroverted and talkative self. Determined and resourceful, she persistently sought a solution to her curse despite being unable to see youkai. Her deep knowledge of youkai, drawn from her grandfather's research, excites her, though she can be blunt, tactless, and somewhat obtuse about others' feelings. She has a peculiar taste in cuteness, often doting on Nyanko-sensei's cat form. Despite her delicate appearance, she lacks skill in arts and crafts and is described as lacking delicacy.

She is the youngest child of the Taki family, an ancient and wealthy lineage descended from former onmyoji. Her parents, often busy with overseas work, were rarely present during her upbringing and were stern and strict when home. Primarily raised by her grandfather, Shin'ichiro Taki, she shared his passion for youkai and folklore, forming a close bond with him. Her older brother, Isamu, six years her senior, did not share these interests, resulting in a distant relationship. When her grandfather fell ill and passed away during her childhood, Taki chose to remain in the family home rather than move abroad, living there mostly alone. Around five years later, in her final year of middle school, she discovered a youkai circle in her grandfather's notes. After drawing it and witnessing a youkai, she continued experimenting until a larger youkai cursed her for seeing them.

Taki first met Natsume at school while silenced by the curse and initially avoided interaction. They properly met after Nyanko-sensei tripped her, leading to her introduction. After learning of her curse, Natsume resolved to help her. During the effort to break it, Natsume was temporarily cursed and unable to see youkai. With Nyanko-sensei's assistance in sealing the youkai, Taki's curse was lifted, and they became close friends. She is one of the few humans aware of Natsume's ability to see youkai and often wishes to help him, though he remains cautious about involving others.

She met Kaname Tanuma during a school festival in the manga and earlier in the anime's Kai arc. Their initial interaction was awkward, but shared concern for Natsume brought them together as good friends. They have collaborated to assist Natsume, such as when he was transformed into a younger self by a youkai.

Taki first encountered Nyanko-sensei when he tripped her, and he later helped free her from the curse. She adores his cat form, often cuddling him despite his attempts to avoid it, restraining herself only in serious situations or when he transforms.

She admired her grandfather, Shin'ichiro Taki, and deeply believed in his youkai and folklore studies. Her relationship with her brother, Isamu, remains distant due to their differing interests and his departure from home. Her feelings toward her largely absent parents appear detached, without overt resentment.

Taki possesses the knowledge to draw youkai circles, a technique inherited from her grandfather. These circles, when drawn correctly, allow humans with even minimal spiritual energy to see any youkai that steps inside. The circles do not require spiritual energy to activate, but their complex design likely makes Taki the only person who can draw them without a guide. She has expressed interest in learning more about onmyoji practices through her grandfather's books and gradually grows more curious about youkai literature and ancient spells, despite her fearful past experience.

She once met Seiji Matoba when he came to pay respects to her grandfather during a memorial service. In the anime, she becomes friends with Jun Sasada, who joins Natsume's group of school friends.
