Description
Goro Yatagarasu, commonly called Yata, is an ICPO officer serving as Inspector Koichi Zenigata's assistant. He debuts in *Lupin the 3rd Part 5*, whose youthful enthusiasm and strong sense of justice contrast Zenigata's seasoned pursuit of Lupin III. Initially skeptical, Yata views Zenigata's single-minded focus on Lupin as a career hindrance, yet remains loyal out of deep respect. His tendency toward literal interpretations of justice sometimes leads him to accuse Zenigata of leniency or overlook situational complexities. This strict adherence to protocol results in practical setbacks, like having his sidearm destroyed during Lupin encounters.

Yata reappears in the 2019 TV special *Prison of the Past*, marking his return as a recurring franchise character. His role continues in *Lupin the 3rd Part 6* as Zenigata's assistant. Throughout these appearances, Yata's loyalty to Zenigata deepens; he actively defends the inspector against superior criticism, shifting from skepticism to unwavering support. While remaining principled, his experiences foster a more nuanced understanding of Zenigata's relentless chase.

The name Goro Yatagarasu incorporates kanji meaning "five" (五), "son" (郎), "eight" (八), "span" (咫), and "crow" (烏). It serves as a tribute to Gorō Naya, Zenigata's late original voice actor, and shares kanji with Hachigoro, an earlier Zenigata sidekick, reinforcing ties to the inspector's legacy. Yata functions as Zenigata's Number Two, balancing youthful idealism with growing professionalism across his assignments.
