Shō Kusakabe is the younger brother of Shinra Kusakabe, born under mysterious circumstances involving a virgin birth. His Adolla Burst ability manifested in infancy, igniting a fire that destroyed their home and transformed their mother into a horned Infernal. This event allowed the White-Clad cult to abduct him. Raised by the cult under the Evangelist's influence, Shō was manipulated into believing she was his only parent, with memories of his biological family suppressed by Haumea's mental interference.
He exhibits albinism, with pure white hair, pale skin, and crimson red eyes featuring white pupils. Standing 145 cm tall and weighing 37 kg, he possesses a youthful, angelic appearance. While with the White-Clad, he wore their standard uniform: a white jumper bearing a red Sol God cross symbol, quilted sleeves, a white cloak, gloves, trousers, and knee-high boots, carrying a katana on his right hip. After defecting, his civilian disguises involved conspicuously mismatched outfits like oversized hats and heavy scarves.
Initially cold and emotionally detached, Shō embodied apathy as the Third Pillar of indifference. Upon reuniting with Shinra, he expressed no familial connection, rejected their brotherhood, and showed no remorse for his actions as the White-Clad's enforcer, a result of prolonged indoctrination and memory manipulation. Exposure to Shinra's memories during a battle triggered a gradual resurgence of suppressed emotions, causing him to shed tears and question his loyalty. Though Haumea temporarily reasserted control, Shō ultimately broke free, developing curiosity, humor, and a protective devotion to Shinra. His later demeanor displayed childlike wonder at ordinary experiences like balloons and children playing, reflecting his deprived upbringing.
As Commander of the Knights of the Ashen Flame, Shō demonstrated exceptional swordsmanship. He wielded his katana precisely, often using the sheath or flat side for non-lethal takedowns but employing lethal force when needed. His physical capabilities included superhuman speed and strength, enabling feats like shattering concrete pillars and contending with adversaries such as Joker and Arthur Boyle without pyrokinetics.
His primary power is the Adolla Burst, a rare ability shared with Shinra. As a Fourth Generation pyrokinetic, Shō activates "Severed Universe," manipulating thermal energy to slow the universe's expansion and effectively stop time for everyone except himself. This creates the illusion of instantaneous movement, allowing him to strike multiple opponents undetected. The technique required a link to the Evangelist's grace and carried severe drawbacks: prolonged use caused his body to freeze, encasing him in ice. During the Great Cataclysm, Adolla's merging with reality allowed him to use this ability independently. Entities like Shinra (via Adolla Links) or exceptionally fast foes like Faerie could resist or counter the effect.
Shō oversaw White-Clad operations, including the Asakusa attack and the assault on Vulcan's Workshop, where he first encountered Shinra. He initially sought to capture his brother for the Evangelist. In the Netherworld arc, he battled Joker while directing his knights against Fire Force members. His turning point came during a confrontation with Shinra, where shared memories via Adolla Link restored his familial bonds. Though Haumea forcibly erased these memories again, Shō ultimately rebelled permanently, aiding Company 8 against the White-Clad. He was later teleported to Adolla during the Great Cataclysm's reinitialization.
