TV-Series
Description
Kasumi Miwa is a second-year student at the Kyoto Prefecture Jujutsu High School. She is 17 years old and has long blue hair, often seen wearing the standard black student uniform of her school. Her family background is one of financial difficulty, as she comes from a poor household and has two younger brothers to support. This economic pressure is the primary factor driving her to succeed as a jujutsu sorcerer.
Miwa has a simple and sensible personality, often coming across as one of the most grounded and kind-hearted students among her peers. Unlike some of her classmates who harbor grudges or fatalistic attitudes, her reasons for becoming a sorcerer are pragmatically centered on earning a stable income. She is known for her polite and earnest demeanor, though she also possesses a notably bubbly side. This is most prominently displayed in her role as an enthusiastic fan of Satoru Gojo, whom she greatly admires; she once managed to get a photograph with him, becoming so flustered by the encounter that she forgot an assigned errand. Despite her dedication, Miwa struggles with low self-esteem and frequently views herself as weak or a burden to others, a perception that is reinforced by her experiences in battle.
In the story, Miwa serves as a supporting character representing the Kyoto school. Her primary motivation is to raise her sorcerer grade to secure a better life for her family, openly stating that she wants to "make money" to help her siblings. She participates in the Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event, where she is tasked with the mission to assassinate Yuji Itadori. Although she follows orders and attacks him, she is visibly uncomfortable with the plan and expresses relief when the assignment is interrupted. During this event, she engages in a direct fight with Maki Zenin, during which her lack of combat experience is exposed, and her sword is easily broken by her opponent.
Her key relationships are primarily with her fellow Kyoto students and her teacher, Utahime Iori. She shares a particularly significant bond with Kokichi Muta, the pilot of the Mechamaru puppet. Kokichi harbors romantic feelings for Miwa, and she cares deeply for him, expressing a desire to visit his real body and get closer to him. This relationship culminates in tragedy during the Shibuya Incident, where Kokichi sends her a final message via a communication device before his death, confessing his love and urging her to find happiness. His death is a profound emotional blow for Miwa.
Later in the Shibuya Incident, Miwa takes part in an ambush against the villain Kenjaku. In a desperate attempt to avenge her fallen comrades, she unleashes her strongest technique, putting everything she has into a single strike. She makes a binding vow, sacrificing her future ability to wield a sword to empower the attack. However, Kenjaku easily blocks the blow with his bare hand and destroys her katana. This event marks a major turning point, as the binding vow prevents her from swinging a sword again, effectively sidelining her from direct combat for a significant portion of the story.
Despite this, Miwa shows development not through raw power, but through her enduring resolve. Even after losing her ability to fight offensively, she continues to participate in the final conflict against Ryomen Sukuna. She arrives on the battlefield to protect Maki Zenin, activating her Simple Domain to shield her from the onslaught of Sukuna's domain expansion, demonstrating her commitment to supporting her allies even at great personal risk.
Regarding her notable abilities, Miwa does not possess an innate cursed technique. Instead, she relies on the New Shadow Style, a form of swordsmanship that utilizes cursed energy. Her primary weapon is a katana, which functions as a semi-cursed tool. Her signature move is the Batto Sword Drawing technique, which involves sheathing the blade and charging it with cursed energy to unleash a devastating, high-speed drawing attack. She is also proficient in the use of a Simple Domain, an anti-domain technique that creates a small, localized barrier to nullify the guaranteed hit effect of a domain expansion. She is officially ranked as a Grade 3 sorcerer, a level that reflects her hard work but also acknowledges her limitations compared to her more powerful contemporaries.
