TV-Series
Description
Elma belongs to the Dragon Faction of Harmony, opposing Tohru's Chaos faction. She initially enters the human world to capture Tohru but becomes stranded, adopting the alias Elma Joui and working alongside Kobayashi at Jigokumeguri System Engineering. Her inability to return stems from being "born differently," restricting interdimensional travel.

Her human form displays short black hair with purple tips, blue eyes, and a spiral unicorn-like horn typically hidden during work. Standing 173 cm tall, she wears business attire—grey blazer, white shirt, light blue tie, knee-length skirt, and heels—or traditional garb: dark blue leotard, purple kimono, bandaged legs, and sandals. Her dragon form is a 120-meter-long blue sea serpent with a brown forehead horn and a trident-like tail, built for aquatic movement.

Personality traits include unwavering dedication to faction duties, chronic indecisiveness in mundane choices, and extreme gluttony—especially for sweets—which strains her finances and leaves her vulnerable to food-based manipulation. Though her Harmony principles forbid human interference, she often compromises when tempted by cuisine.

Centuries before the main story, she posed as "Seikai the Miko" to mediate human conflicts, forging a truce with Tohru to observe humanity. This alliance shattered when Tohru destroyed a palace built for Elma by worshippers, triggering a brief battle before Elma retreated to her faction.

Early narrative clashes involve confrontations with Tohru, including being blasted to a park after giving Kobayashi a protective charm. Later, she integrates into human society, aiding community events like directing a retirement-home play. Workplace arcs depict her professional growth—completing tasks, misinterpreting corporate terms like "pillar," and launching a strike for better food—offset by financial woes from impulsive eating.

Interactions show nuance: she collaborates with dragons like Kanna and Lucoa during outings, battles Tohru under supervision, and accidentally exposes her dragon form, requiring others to hide her identity. A camping trip reveals her protective instincts when she transforms to fight a bear before scolding the children.

Manga-exclusive developments unveil romantic feelings for Tohru, culminating in a rejected confession. Her corporate challenges and daily adjustments are detailed in the spin-off "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: Elma's Office Lady Diary." Across all media, she balances draconic duty, workplace diligence, and comedic vulnerability driven by her appetites.
