Daigo Aoki attends Tōtsuki Culinary Academy and lives in the Polar Star Dormitory. He possesses spiky black hair with long sideburns, tan skin, and a well-built physique. His Tōtsuki uniform is usually worn unbuttoned without a tie, and he frequently cooks in a plain white undershirt, reinforcing a tough look. He is almost always accompanied by Shōji Satō; their dynamic is combative yet inseparable. Despite his rough exterior, Daigo exhibits fierce loyalty towards his Polar Star dormmates. He actively defends them against insults from other students and provides support during major competitions. He joins in communal dorm activities, which include bothering Zenji Marui and using Zenji's room for parties. Daigo secured his place at Polar Star by passing the entrance test administered by dormitory matron Fumio Daimidō before the series began. His culinary abilities, though not specialized, are competent enough to sustain his position within the competitive academy. Notable dishes he has prepared include Vegetable Fritters, crafted using fresh produce from the dormitory garden. Sōma Yukihira remarked on the dish's quality, crediting the ingredient freshness. He also prepared Buttered Whitefish, whitefish slow-cooked in clarified butter and garnished with mushrooms and spring flowers, served to Erina Nakiri during her Polar Star stay. Erina acknowledged his effort to emphasize natural flavors but pointed out multiple technical flaws, which Daigo accepted as a learning experience. His name reflects his traits: "Daigo" combines the characters for "big" (大) and "I/me" (吾), while "Aoki" means "blue tree" (青木). In the manga, Daigo debuted early, but his name remained unrevealed until Volume 9, creating an 84-chapter gap between his first appearance and name confirmation. He shares this record for delayed naming with Shōji Satō.
