Mikasa Ackerman, born to an Ackerman father and an Asian mother near Shiganshina District, saw her parents murdered by human traffickers at age nine. Kidnapped during the attack, she was rescued by Eren Yeager. He slew two traffickers before being overpowered. Urged by Eren to fight, Mikasa killed the last assailant, awakening her latent Ackerman abilities—superhuman combat instincts and access to ancestral battle experience. Eren gave her a scarf, which became her anchor of safety and comfort. The Yeager family adopted her. Her mother had branded her right wrist with the Azumabito family crest, marking her lineage to Hizuru's Shogun clan. The Fall of Wall Maria in 845 claimed Eren's mother, Carla. Witnessing this horror alongside Eren and Armin Arlert cemented Mikasa's view of the world as cruel yet beautiful. The three later enlisted in the 104th Training Corps. Mikasa graduated first in her class, demonstrating exceptional physical strength, strategic acumen, and mastery of vertical maneuvering equipment. Her unparalleled combat skills were deemed worth a hundred soldiers, though her initial singular focus on protecting Eren resulted in lower teamwork scores. Joining the Survey Corps to follow Eren, Mikasa prioritized his safety above all. She displayed fierce loyalty, acting recklessly when he was endangered, such as disregarding orders during the Female Titan pursuit, leading to comrades' injuries. Her emotional dependence showed when she wept openly after his presumed death in Trost and harbored vengeful grudges against his harmers. Though stoic, she revealed vulnerability around Eren, blushing at romantic insinuations and despairing when he claimed to hate her. His criticism of her hair prompted her to cut it short. Over time, Mikasa formed bonds beyond Eren and Armin, notably with Sasha Braus, whose death deeply affected her. She learned to value teamwork, collaborating effectively with distant relative Levi Ackerman. Her worldview expanded; she prioritized humanity's survival over Eren's safety during the Return to Shiganshina arc, trusting him and Armin to handle Bertholdt without intervention. She also accepted Levi's choice to revive Armin over Commander Erwin Smith. When Eren, during the war with Marley, rejected her devotion as Ackerman subservience, Mikasa discarded his scarf, later retrieving it while questioning his motives as he initiated the Rumbling. Despite desiring a peaceful life with him, she joined the alliance to stop his genocide. She killed Jaegerist leader Floch Forster and confronted Eren. In the Paths dimension, Eren offered an alternate reality where they escaped together, urging her to forget him. Refusing, she donned the scarf and decapitated him, freeing Ymir Fritz and ending the Titan curse. After Eren's death, Mikasa buried him under a tree near Shiganshina. She visited his grave regularly for decades, eventually marrying and raising a family. She lived into old age, passing away while wearing the scarf, fulfilling her wish to remember him while moving forward.
