Description
Anastasia Hoshin is a human woman from the Kararagi City-States. An orphan who once worked as a bar waitress, her life was irrevocably altered upon meeting the enslaved demi-human, Ricardo Welkin. She boldly vowed to remove his slave collar, a declaration made in the face of her own substantial debt and opposition from the local Chamber of Commerce. She secured his freedom by producing a bag of coins to pay her debts, an act which earned her Ricardo's pledge of lifelong allegiance.

Her sharp business acumen quickly became apparent after she joined the Ryuushika Business Association. Following a successful opinion on a minor deal, she amassed the wealth required to purchase the company outright. Renaming it the Hoshin Trading Company, she sought to expand its operations into the Kingdom of Lugunica. It was during negotiations with the Juukulius family that she was discovered to possess the qualifications to become a candidate for the 42nd ruler of Lugunica.

She is driven by an immense greed and an open desire to own a country as a stepping stone for further acquisitions. This avarice is balanced by a powerful sense of loyalty; she refuses to discard the people and assets she considers hers, including her company and all its employees. She speaks with a distinct Kansai dialect.

She stands 155 cm tall and is often adorned in fine dresses, a coat, and a distinctive ushanka hat. A white fox scarf is her constant companion, which is the physical form of her artificial spirit partner, Echidna.

Anastasia possesses a genius intellect for commerce and negotiation, which allowed her to build a massively influential enterprise. She has no inherent combat ability and possesses a defective Gate, making her incapable of using magic without assistance. Her primary abilities are granted through Echidna, who permanently resides with her as a scarf. The spirit protects her from memory manipulation and makes her immune to possession. When Echidna takes control of her body, she can cast spells on her behalf: Jiwald, a heat ray fired at light speed, and the more powerful El Jiwald, claws of light capable of reducing a human to ashes.

Her relationship with her knight, Julius Juukulius, is both professional and close. She takes a personal interest in his well-being, such as selecting a kimono for him during a trip to Kararagi that she felt complemented his features. They share a dynamic of mutual respect, with Julius acknowledging her resolve. Her bond with Ricardo Welkin is one of deep, mutual trust that dates to her childhood; he refers to her fondly as "young Miss." This bond endured despite her having kept Echidna’s existence secret from him for ten years.

The Hoshin Trading Company is managed in her absence by a well-liked, notably overweight vice-president named Chuden.

Following Natsuki Subaru's disappearance from the Pleiades Watchtower, Anastasia broke her self-imposed prohibition on returning to Kararagi. This was a strategic risk, as her strong foreign ties could create anti-Kararagi sentiment and harm her standing in the royal selection. Her motivation for the journey was not personal gain, but to settle a perceived debt to Subaru and Emilia's camp, a fact she was reluctant to admit openly. She traveled to the city of Ivada, one of Kararagi's ten major cities and her company's headquarters, accompanied by Julius, Ricardo, Echidna, and the siblings Mimi and Hetaro.

In the spin-off visual novel "Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu -Death or Kiss-", which features an original story, Anastasia is one of the royal candidates who can form a romantic relationship with Natsuki Subaru. The story involves a curse that requires Subaru to receive a kiss from one of the heroines to break it.
