Kenshiro, destined successor of the Hokuto Sōke lineage, emerged in the Land of Shura. A childhood fire at Taiseiden saw him and brother Hyoh rescued by Hahaja, culminating in their adoption by Hokuto Shinken master Ryuken. Training alongside adoptive siblings Raoh, Toki, and Jagi, his compassionate spirit distinguished him early. Toki shielded him from a collapsing tree, bearing a scar as a testament to their bond, and later sacrificed himself during a nuclear catastrophe that poisoned Toki with radiation, irrevocably changing their fates.
After the 199X nuclear war, Kenshiro sought solace with fiancée Yuria until Shin, a Nanto Koshū Ken rival, shattered their peace. Defeated and branded with seven wounds mirroring the Big Dipper, Kenshiro wandered the irradiated wastes for a year, honing his martial skills.
