Description
Morgana is a mysterious cat-like being from the Metaverse realm called Mementos, first found imprisoned in Kamoshida's Palace. Plagued by amnesia about his origins and true identity, he clings to the belief he was once human, fueling his quest to regain his memories and original form. This drive leads him to join the protagonist and help found the Phantom Thieves, where he acts as second-in-command, chief strategist, and the group's initial navigator within the Metaverse, adopting the codename "Mona".

His appearance shifts between dimensions. In the real world, he manifests as a domestic cat with black fur, a white muzzle, paws, and tail tip, wearing a yellow collar. Within the Metaverse, he transforms into a bipedal, anthropomorphic figure with a large head, blue eyes, a yellow scarf replacing his collar, and a utility belt, embodying a mascot-like aesthetic. Morgana uniquely possesses the ability to transform into a van, modeled after the Citroën H Van, enabling the Phantom Thieves' transport during infiltrations; this power stems from a collective Japanese subconscious association linking cats and vehicles. After the Metaverse erasure following Yaldabaoth's defeat, he permanently retains his real-world cat form unless temporary distortions briefly restore his Metaverse abilities. An alternate reality in *Persona 5 Royal* depicts him temporarily achieving a human form resembling a teenage boy with dark blue hair.

Morgana displays a complex personality marked by outward confidence masking inner fragility. He repeatedly asserts his humanity, bristling when called a cat, and adopts a prideful, chivalrous attitude, especially towards female teammates like Ann Takamaki. He often speaks eloquently, sometimes pompously, and demonstrates leadership as the group's tactical advisor. This bravado conceals profound insecurities about his usefulness and purpose, particularly after Futaba Sakura joins and takes over the navigator role, intensifying his fear of being seen as expendable or merely a pet. His self-doubt peaks in a temporary departure from the Phantom Thieves after clashing with Ryuji Sakamoto, leading him to partner with Haru Okumura; this period underscores his struggles with inadequacy, highlighted by his failure to protect Haru from her fiancé. He ultimately reconciles with the group upon recognizing their bond as his true place, prioritizing their shared mission over his personal quest for humanity.

His story reveals his origin as a creation of Igor, designed to guide the protagonist against the god of control, Yaldabaoth. Regaining these memories in Mementos' depths, he accepts his role. After Yaldabaoth's defeat, he vows to stay with the protagonist in his cat form while hoping for future humanity. In later adventures like *Persona 5 Strikers*, he continues supporting the Phantom Thieves, demonstrating steadfast loyalty and adapting his skills to new threats.
