Movie
Description
An elderly character is first seen attempting to open a magical portal with his cane using the Gateway spell. Nurse Miki Midorikawa mistakes this for senility before learning the magic and other world are real. Years after this initial encounter, he meets Yu and explains the connection between the ordinary world (Ichi no Kuni) and the magical realm (Ni no Kuni), stating only chosen heroes can travel between them.
During the film's climax, as Yu lies injured after protecting Princess Astrid, the character reappears wearing distinctive blue traveler's robes. He declares Yu worthy of being a chosen hero and gives him his cane, which transforms into the legendary sword Mornstar. After this act, he departs through a self-created portal, mentioning a wish not to worry Nurse Miki.
He exhibits kindness, playfulness, and a firm belief in heroes, willing to risk his life when needed. Possessing Mornstar for many years marks him as exceptionally trustworthy, as the sword abandoned its previous owner due to their evil deeds. His abilities include creating magical portals and wielding Mornstar's power.
Speculation suggests this individual may be Oliver, protagonist of earlier games. Connections include Mornstar being forged from Oliver's original wand, the blue traveler's robes matching Oliver's unique attire, similarities in hairstyle and eye color, his knowledge of interdimensional travel and heroes, and his final act of passing Mornstar aligning with Oliver's role as guardian of the magical world.
