Description
Takeshi, known as Brock, hails from Pewter City in Kanto. He became the Pewter City Gym Leader, specializing in Rock-type Pokémon and awarding the Boulder Badge, after stepping up to care for his nine younger siblings following his father Flint's departure. Brock relinquished his Gym Leader position following a defeat by Ash Ketchum and joined Ash's journey to achieve his dream of becoming a Pokémon Breeder.
He traveled extensively with Ash through Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, providing essential support including navigation, cooking, and medical care for both humans and Pokémon. Brock also demonstrated expertise in grooming Pokémon and creating specialized Pokémon food. Nearing the end of the Sinnoh journey, he shifted his goal from Breeder to Pokémon Doctor. He left Ash's group to study medicine in Kanto, later apprenticing under established Pokémon Doctors in Johto.
During the Mount Coronet crisis involving Team Galactic and Arceus, Brock served as a practicing Pokémon Doctor in Sinnoh. Based out of a Pokémon Center, he made house calls using a specialized aircraft, aided by his medical team: his evolved Blissey (originally a Happiny he raised to Chansey) and his Croagunk. He reunited with Ash and Dawn to investigate disturbances caused by a rampaging Heatran. Brock identified this entity as an energy-based manifestation trapping the real Heatran and the Flame Plate, using his medical and observational skills to guide the group's strategy.
Brock's personality blends maturity and perceptiveness, often offering strategic insights during battles and crises. He remains calm under pressure but displays a recurring tendency to flirt with women like Nurse Joy or Kahuna Olivia, frequently resulting in physical restraint or interruption by companions or his own Pokémon. Despite this flaw, his foundational dedication to Pokémon care and mentorship persists across his roles as Gym Leader, breeder, and doctor.
Beyond the Arceus Chronicles, Brock reappeared in Alola to assist Ash and classmates, diagnosing a baby Kangaskhan's injury and utilizing a Comfey for treatment. He eventually returned to Kanto but continued his medical work, appearing in resident doctor attire during the World Coronation Series finals. His background includes a strong sense of familial duty towards his siblings and occasional friction with his mother over her alterations to the Pewter Gym.
Brock's skills encompass extensive Pokémon knowledge, medical expertise, cooking proficiency, and tactical battle analysis. He briefly wielded a Mega Steelix during a Gym battle in Alola, showing retained combat capability despite his medical focus. His development traces a path from battling and breeding to holistic Pokémon healthcare, consistently applying his nurturing nature and observational abilities.
