Description
Gai Daido pilots the water-focused Getter formation in Getter Robo Go. Originally a mechanic maintaining Getter Robo after battles, his deep machinery knowledge led to his recruitment as the third pilot during a Metal Beast attack when the assigned pilot was unavailable, despite initial reluctance from Hayato Jin. With the Getter Machine damaged, Gai improvised a maneuver enabling the team to form Getter Gai, showcasing exceptional adaptability under pressure.

Physically, Gai is a large, muscular young man with short black hair styled in a crew cut. His personality centers on profound affection for Getter Robo, earning him the nickname "Getter Lover" for his meticulous care and respect for the machine. This devotion coexists with toughness, notably when facing down racist American soldiers led by Schwartz Koff who tormented scientists at the Alaska Base. Despite this hostility, Gai established a positive rapport with the soldier Jim.

His core ability is technical expertise, possessing an acute understanding of aircraft mechanics, especially Getter Robo Go. He assesses a machine's state through sound and vibrations. This sensory skill let him push the damaged Getter to its maximum potential during the Getter Gai formation, outflying even an experienced candidate like a retired air force pilot.

Following the initial battle success, Gai formally joined the Getter Team and retreated with them to Alaska. Stationed there, he focused on repairing Getter Robo while navigating the hostility from American soldiers. He participated in key battles, including against the Dragon Turtle and the confrontation with Shinichi Tachibana within the mobile fortress, securing victory against challenging odds. Subsequently, he returned to Japan alongside Go Ichimonji aboard the sole surviving Getter Machine.

Back in Japan, Gai assisted Go and Kei Minamikaze in disabling bomb-laden Metal Beasts to prevent civilian casualties. This effort led them to the Saotome Institute, housing the formidable Shin Getter Robo. To activate this machine against the Dinosaur Empire, Gai aided in locating Ryoma Nagare, Hayato's former colleague. During a subsequent battle against Dinosaur Soldiers using the Shin Getter, Gai was overwhelmed by the immense power of the Getter Rays. This exposure triggered a loss of sanity, driving him to attempt destroying the Shin Getter itself. The machine absorbed him during this attempt. While assimilating, he experienced visions within the Getter Rays, gaining a profound understanding of the Getter's nature. Fully assimilated, he communicated to Go that he had become part of the Getter entity.
