Description
Chaika Trabant, alias Chaika Gaz, is a 14-year-old human mage distinguished by her long white hair, large purple eyes, and strikingly thick black eyebrows. She constantly hauls an oversized coffin housing her disassembled Gundo sniper rifle, the conduit for her precision-focused spells.
Her journey centers on gathering the scattered remains of Emperor Arthur Gaz for burial. Initially believing herself his daughter, she later learns she is one of many orphaned girls brainwashed into this identity. Their collective mission unknowingly serves Emperor Gaz's scheme to resurrect himself by reincarnating through the reclaimed remains. Chaika's fragmented memories result from using them as magical fuel, causing gaps in her recollection of events after the Gaz Empire's collapse.
Personality-wise, Chaika displays naivete, deep compassion, and a strong aversion to violence, consistently seeking peaceful resolutions. She speaks the common language in broken, disjointed sentences, though remains fluent in Laake, the Gaz Empire's native tongue. Driven by innate optimism and kindness, she helps others indiscriminately, sometimes landing herself in peril due to obliviousness to danger and a notoriously poor sense of direction. Throughout her travels, she evolves from relative helplessness into greater emotional resilience and fierce protectiveness, especially toward companions Toru and Akari Acura. This growth includes gradual improvement in her speech patterns and a hardened resolve to complete her mission despite confronting unsettling truths about her origins.
Her magic specializes in high-precision spells cast through her Gundo rifle. Key abilities include "The Ripper" (magic slashes), "The Burner" (explosive fireball), "The Locator" (magic sonar), "The Intruder" (air poisoning), and "The Commander" (magic nullification). Her combat effectiveness relies heavily on preparation time and allies drawing enemy fire, positioning her as a glass cannon. Her ultimate ability channels memories through the artifact "Niva Lada," transforming it into a massive cannon unleashing immense destructive power, deployed in the final battle.
Key relationships define her path. She hires saboteurs Toru and Akari Acura after their first meeting, forming a profound bond with Toru that blossoms into mutual romantic feelings. Her dynamic with the shape-shifting dragoon Frederica shifts from initial distrust to alliance. Encounters with other Chaika variants, especially the vengeful "Red Chaika" (Chaika Bohdan), range from antagonism to reluctant cooperation, underscoring their shared plight despite opposing goals.
Her story culminates in sacrificing nearly all memories to power Niva Lada and destroy the resurrected Emperor Gaz, severing her connection to the implanted Gaz identity. In the aftermath, she awakens with restored normal speech and lives with Toru, showing potential for gradual memory recovery.
