Description
Tsuruno Yui is a magical girl from Sankyo Ward in Kamihama City, standing 162 cm tall with dark brown hair often in a side ponytail and orange eyes. She wears the Kamihama City University Affiliated School uniform as an eleventh-grade student.

Her family owns the Chinese restaurant Banbanzai, founded by her great-grandfather and expanded by her grandfather. Financial decline occurred under her father's management. Her grandmother and mother prioritized material wealth, using Tsuruno's 800 million yen lottery winnings – granted by her wish – for a luxury cruise instead of aiding the restaurant. Tsuruno insists they are merely "on a trip," denying their abandonment. An older sister studies abroad, abandoning the family's culinary legacy for personal dreams.

Tsuruno's magical girl Soul Gem is an orange diamond centered on her waist belt. She wields iron fans and commands fire-based attacks like Flame Waltz, dealing area-of-effect damage and boosting allies' blast capabilities. Her magical ability is termed "good luck," but its manifestation is ambiguous: her wish benefited her family, yet rarely aids her personally. Banbanzai remains financially unstable despite loyal customers drawn by low prices and her charismatic service. Her Witch form, Yu Hong, resembles Jinhua ham and symbolizes fragile familial harmony. Its Doppel generates wealth to placate relatives' greed, contrasting Tsuruno's ethos of hard work. She disdains this manifestation as antithetical to her goals.

Outwardly energetic and boastful about being "the mightiest magical girl," Tsuruno maintains relentless optimism. This facade masks deep-seated insecurities from abandonment and trauma. Following the death of Mel Anna and Mifuyu Azusa's disappearance, she adopted forced cheerfulness to prevent others from leaving, believing strength alone preserved relationships and leading to emotional suppression. This culminated in her transformation into Uwasa Tsuruno when fused with the Chelation Land Ferris Wheel Rumor, amplifying her internal struggles.

Integration into Mikazuki Villa spurred character development, forming bonds with Iroha Tamaki, Yachiyo Nanami, Felicia Mitsuki, and Sana Futaba. A pivotal growth moment occurred during factory work arranged by Meiyui Chun for "training"; after scattering goods and being comforted by coworkers, Tsuruno broke down, admitting her fear of losing her family and restaurant. Yachiyo advised focusing on small achievements rather than overwhelming burdens. Tsuruno applied this later by returning to aid Meiyui. These relationships redefine her strength: she views Yachiyo as a mentor, relies on Iroha's friendship, and trains Felicia. They help her accept vulnerability, seen when she tearfully confronted her guilt over Mel’s death and Mifuyu’s absence.

She later joined the Kamihama Magia Union and briefly affiliated with the Wings of Magius as a black feather before aligning permanently with Mikazuki Villa. Her role emphasizes protecting others to honor her grandfather’s belief that "all human strength is the same at the root."
