Description
Tsumugi, an oni girl from the secret Hidden Village, ventures into the human world seeking her vanished mother, Shion. Guided only by a good luck charm left behind—a clue from a remote temple—her quest begins amidst an unnatural summer snowfall where she meets Hiiragi Yatsuse, a reserved human high school student.

Honest, cheerful, and indifferent to human conventions, Tsumugi exhibits a straightforward, uncompromising personality, often using her unique catchphrase "umashi." Her bravery and determination starkly contrast Hiiragi's nature. As an oni who left the Hidden Village without permission, she faces pursuit by Snow Gods, mystical entities that feed on suppressed emotions.

Hitchhiking with Hiiragi, Tsumugi encounters various humans: a brother-sister clothing business duo and an elderly tea shop owner mourning his wife. These interactions deepen her understanding of human emotions and relationships. A Snow God attack injures Tsumugi, leading to recovery at a traditional inn where she bonds with the staff.

Their journey reaches a turning point at the Hie Shrine. Tsumugi reunites with her father, Izuru, who reveals a conflicting truth about Shion's disappearance. This revelation causes a rift with Hiiragi, whose ensuing emotional turmoil triggers his transformation into an oni. Captured by a Snow God, Hiiragi is taken to the Hidden Village, prompting Tsumugi and Izuru to follow.

Within the Hidden Village, Tsumugi learns of the Spirit Mask, an artifact controlling the Snow Gods. She travels alone to Oni Island, locking Hiiragi away for safety, and confronts her mother, Shion. Tsumugi discovers Shion used the mask to command the Snow Gods, driven by anger over separation from her family. Destroying the mask risks exposing the Hidden Village but frees Shion. Tsumugi and Hiiragi collaborate to neutralize the Snow Gods, restoring peace.

The resolution reunites Tsumugi's family. She reconciles with Hiiragi, who returns to being human, and they part ways. In a post-credits scene, Tsumugi visits Hiiragi via bus, indicating their continued connection. Her quest concludes with a deeper comprehension of family bonds and emotional expression, alongside a tentative romantic reconciliation with Hiiragi.
