Description
Makoto Takiya presents a dual identity. Professionally, he works as a system engineer at Jigokumeguri System Engineering Inc. alongside Kobayashi, maintaining a polished image in standard office attire: a white button-down shirt, dark slacks, a blue necktie, and brown leather shoes. Outside the office, he embraces a distinct otaku persona marked by thick glasses with spiral lenses, prominent buck teeth, a higher-pitched voice, and frequent use of the verbal suffix "-de yansu".

He lives in an apartment, initially alone before accepting the dragon Fafnir as a roommate after Fafnir's arrival in the human world. Beyond his programming career, Takiya actively creates doujinshi as a mangaka and game developer, specializing in shoot-'em-up games which he sells at Comiket events. An implied past connection to another world surfaces in the "This Guy Is Not From Another World" side story, suggesting he may have once operated under the alias Kiyama and participated in dragon-involved events, including an incident where Telne's horn was severed.

His character development centers on his relationship with Fafnir, whom he introduces to otaku culture through shared gaming, manga, and collaborative doujin projects. Their domestic life includes settling chores through gameplay victories, and Fafnir permits the nickname "Faf-kun" as a sign of trust. Takiya shares a strictly platonic camaraderie with Kobayashi, bonding over mutual interests in maid culture and enthusiastic otaku discussions during frequent drinking sessions. Despite Tohru's initial jealousy viewing him as a rival for Kobayashi's attention, he consistently responds with patience and kindness.

Takiya demonstrates community-oriented behavior across storylines: organizing group gatherings, assisting Kobayashi with her workload during absences, and mediating dragon-related challenges. Examples include booking a replacement spa trip after a cancellation and advising Shouta Magatsuchi on personal matters. His technical skills encompass specialized programming languages resembling magical systems, and he applies sharp gaming reflexes to both his doujin creations and workplace tasks. In spin-offs like "Elma's Office Lady Diary," his calm reliability earns him comparisons to a priest, reinforcing his role as a stabilizing presence.

Appearances in OVAs and specials include a Valentine's Day gaming session with Fafnir involving a virtual "Valentine's Blade" exchange and coordinating New Year celebrations following Comiket sales.
