Description
Keita Amano, called Nathan Adams in Western releases, is an 11-year-old Springdale resident whose bug-hunting expedition leads him to free Whisper from a capsule machine near a sacred tree. Whisper appoints himself Keita's butler and gifts him the Yo-kai Watch, unlocking Keita's ability to perceive and interact with previously invisible Yo-kai entities—launching his adventures into Yo-kai phenomena. Though initially labeled average in studies and hobbies, Keita rejects this perception. His ordinary routines—television watching, gaming, and keeping a messy room—coexist with a fierce sense of justice in crises and explosive anger when provoked. Yo-kai often inspirit him or friends, causing comedic mishaps, particularly around childhood crush Katie Forester, whom he persistently tries to impress without success.

The cat-like Yo-kai Jibanyan becomes one of Keita's earliest companions after moving into his home, bonding despite initial clashes over Jibanyan's mischief. Keita later uncovers Jibanyan's past connection to former owner Amy. Key Yo-kai allies include advisor Whisper and later recruits like USApyon and Tomnyan. Keita upgrades his watch through models including the Model Zero, U Prototype (U-1), and Yo-kai Watch Dream—each expanding his summoning abilities. He gains two Yo-kai forms: Fuu2 during his second cinematic adventure and Kemushi-otoko via the Dark Yo-kai Watch.

His human connections feature friendships with Bear and Eddie, sharing bug-catching and "scare dares." He maintains a rivalry-alliance dynamic with fellow watch-wielder Inaho, facing tensions from accidental offenses or competitions yet remaining allies. He mentors Jerry, who briefly uses his original watch, despite discomfort around him. Thirty years later, adult Keita loses Yo-kai sight when the original watch vanishes to balance worlds. He marries Katie Forester, fathers Summer and Tate, works an office job in Springdale, and retains his spiked hair. His personality prioritizes family, and he supports Summer when she gains the Yo-kai Watch Arcane—though his legendary past becomes folktale. In the Shadowside timeline, his daughter Natsume Amano nearly drowns before being saved mysteriously. Years later during an Onimaro virus outbreak, she inherits the Yo-kai Watch Arcane. Keita appears peripherally, unaware of Yo-kai conflicts until revealed as Natsume's father in the film's climax.
