Description
Blue, grandson of Professor Oak, serves as Red's primary rival throughout Pokémon Origins. He begins his journey in Pallet Town, receiving a Pokédex from his grandfather and strategically selecting Squirtle as his first partner Pokémon for its type advantage over Red's Charmander, immediately establishing his competitive nature and tactical mindset.

He consistently displays a mocking and competitive attitude towards Red, belittling Red's abilities while prioritizing his own goal to become the strongest Trainer. Blue frequently appears ahead of Red during their travels, challenging him to battles to assert superiority. Their first major encounter near Viridian City sees Blue's Squirtle overwhelm Red's Charmander, forcing Red to forfeit; Blue taunts Red before continuing alone.

Though self-centered, Blue occasionally assists Red, often motivated by personal glory. In Lavender Town, he enters Pokémon Tower to defeat Team Rocket and become a hero. Fleeing in fear upon encountering the ghost of a Marowak, he later defeats a Team Rocket Grunt, obtains the Silph Scope, and gives it to Red, enabling Red to calm the ghost. Blue then takes credit for the resolution, countered by Red pointing out his initial cowardice. At Silph Co. in Saffron City, Blue helps Red rescue a captured executive from Team Rocket but shows no interest in aiding other hostages or Pokémon; Red must compel him to notify authorities while handling further rescues.

Blue achieves his goal, becoming Pokémon League Champion before Red's arrival at the Indigo Plateau. In their final battle, Blue employs a team of Pidgeot, Alakazam, Rhydon, Arcanine, Exeggutor, and his fully evolved Blastoise. Despite a fierce contest, Red emerges victorious, prompting Professor Oak to admonish Blue for lacking trust in his Pokémon. Later, recuperating at Professor Oak's lab from injuries sustained battling a powerful, unidentified Pokémon in Cerulean Cave, Blue reveals his Pokédex was destroyed, losing all recorded data. Learning Red intends to confront the Pokémon—revealed as Mewtwo—Blue issues a warning but reacts with visible frustration when Red successfully captures it, muttering angrily about losing the Champion title and Red's accomplishment.

Blue demonstrates minor development through these events. While retaining his pride and competitiveness, particularly after defeats, his willingness to assist Red in critical moments suggests an underlying, albeit reluctant, sense of responsibility. He completes the Pokédex by capturing 148 distinct Pokémon species, fulfilling his grandfather's request despite prioritizing battles over research throughout his journey.
