Doraemon serves as a robotic companion and problem-solver from the 22nd century. Manufactured at the Matsushiba Robot Factory on September 3, 2112, as model MS-903, an electrical accident during production compromised some capabilities. Sewashi Nobi subsequently adopted him. A critical incident involving robotic mice damaged Doraemon's ears; surgical repair failed, triggering depression. His tears washed away the original yellow paint, revealing a blue undercoat and establishing his permanent appearance. This trauma also instilled persistent musophobia (fear of mice). Sewashi dispatched him to the past to aid his ancestor, Nobita Nobi, aiming to improve the family's future. Doraemon possesses a four-dimensional pocket storing futuristic gadgets and tools for assisting Nobita. Key devices frequently utilized include the "Time Machine" for temporal travel, the "Anywhere Door" for instantaneous spatial transportation, and the "Take-Copter" for flight. He exhibits a notable fondness for dorayaki (bean jam buns), occasionally exploited by others. In the adventure "What Am I for Momotaro", Doraemon employs a "Time Camera" to capture past images for Nobita's local history project. Discovering an anomalous photograph resembling the folk hero Momotaro and his animal companions, he facilitates a journey to feudal Japan using the Time Machine, ensuring its functionality by referencing a prior upgrade to prevent overloading. During this investigation, Doraemon provides "Animal Transformation Biscuits". Consumption transforms Suneo into a dog, Gian into a monkey, and Shizuka into a pheasant, aligning them with the Momotaro legend's animal companions. He uses "Translation Jelly" to overcome language barriers with a Dutch scholar and a stranded Dutch sailor mistaken for an oni (demon). Doraemon also deploys "Peach Submarines" for aquatic travel; one carrying Nobita is mistaken for a giant peach by an elderly couple, inadvertently casting Nobita as Momotaro. Doraemon's actions and gadget provision directly facilitate the group's unintentional participation in the events inspiring the Momotaro legend. The perceived "oni" on Demon Island is revealed as a shipwrecked Dutch sailor employing scare tactics for self-preservation. The group's transformed states (Nobita as Momotaro, Suneo as the dog, Gian as the monkey, Shizuka as the pheasant) and their encounter with the sailor form the basis of the folktale's imagery discovered in the initial photograph, demonstrating a recurring pattern where Doraemon's interventions inadvertently shape historical perceptions or events. He exhibits characteristic anxieties during the mission, particularly panic when confronted with mice or perilous situations, often prompting frantic searches through his pocket. His dedication to supporting Nobita remains central, driving his efforts to resolve challenges despite setbacks.
