TV Special
Description
Haida, a spotted hyena whose name comes from the Japanese pronunciation of "hyena," works in the accounting department of Carrier Man Trading Co., Ltd. alongside Retsuko and Fenneko. He has grayish-brown fur, a dark gray muzzle with freckle-like spots, hazel eyes, and a pronounced underbite. Professionally, he wears a white dress shirt, red tie, black dress pants, and brown dress shoes. Casually, he favors a red and black striped t-shirt, black leather jacket, jeans, and boots, switching to an olive green coat with a white fur hood in winter. After a promotion, he adopts a black coat over his work shirt.

Haida exhibits neurotic tendencies, social anxiety, and frequent indecisiveness, struggling with self-confidence. He experiences bursts of anger and visible anxiety, especially in emotional situations. His lack of assertiveness originates from a childhood dominated by his father's unrealistic expectations, making him susceptible to manipulation by figures like Himuro and family. Despite this, he demonstrates loyalty to friends and kindness, prioritizing Retsuko's happiness after her rejection. He harbors a five-year unrequited crush on Retsuko, initially kept secret except from Fenneko. His fascination began when observing her refill a water bottle after work hours, finding the behavior intriguing and cute.

His key relationship is with Retsuko, whom he pursues persistently despite multiple rejections. After her breakup with Resasuke, he confesses in a hospital but faces polite rejection, leading to emotional turmoil and nightmares. During the "We Wish You a Metal Christmas" special, he attempts to invite her to a party but falters nervously. Seeing her lonely Instagram post, he rushes to the office, encounters her with friends, and walks her home on Christmas Eve. Their relationship evolves: he saves her from a stalker, receives guitar lessons from her, and builds mutual honesty. Their dating involves setbacks like compulsive gaming leading to eviction. They eventually cohabit, confront familial pressures—visiting Retsuko's parents and facing his domineering father Juzo—and marry after a political campaign.

He briefly dates Inui to move past Retsuko but realizes lingering feelings, leading to separation. His friendship with Fenneko involves regular drinking sessions and reliance on her for emotional support and social media insights about Retsuko. Fenneko initially aids his pursuit but urges him to move on post-rejection. He also develops a tentative bond with Anai, sharing drinks and receiving tough-love interventions during homelessness.

Professionally, Season 4 sees him promoted to Accounting Director, participating in corporate fraud under Himuro's influence. Retsuko intervenes, slapping him into awareness; he quits after confronting Himuro. Season 5 finds him unemployed, evicted, and living in an internet cafe before Retsuko forces him out. Post-eviction, he moves in with her, leading to cohabitation, familial integration, and eventual marriage. His journey concludes with increased emotional stability and mutual support with Retsuko.
