Description
Dr. Manelger is a scientist and primary antagonist whose research is devoted to controlling monsters through artificial means. A past monster attack drove him to dedicate his life to this goal, leading to his discovery of Riders and their natural bonds with monsters through Kinship Stones. This knowledge ignited his obsession to artificially replicate and control those bonds.

He is an old man with white hair and a balding head, with only a few strands remaining. He wears green swirly goggles and a purple cloak bearing a yellow swirl design over a striped tunic. His left arm is a yellow prosthetic, and he sports a messy imperial-like mustache.

His personality is that of a prideful and unethical researcher who considers himself the smartest man alive. He conducts horrific experiments on monsters and abducts Felynes for slave labor, viewing monsters as inferior beings—either tools or plagues to be controlled. He shows contempt for bonds and kinship, even mistreating his own assistant, Itsy-Bits. He claims to act for humanity’s benefit but misunderstands natural balance and threats like the Black Blight, often worsening situations through his actions.

He creates artificial Kinship Stones and develops mind-control armor for monsters, producing enhanced "EX" variants. His experiments include genetic modification and surgery on living monsters, such as a modified Aptonoth EX displayed like a statue. He establishes a laboratory around a Kinship Ore in Dovan Volcano, where he enslaves Felynes—including a group called The Numbers, to which Navirou once belonged—for labor and experimentation.

His actions drive significant events. He first appears presenting a controlled Barroth EX to handle a blighted Cephadrome, but its rampage sparks conflict. He later uses an orphan, Debli, to sell fake Kinship Stones, a scheme uncovered by the protagonists. When confronted in his volcano lab, he traps them and attempts to steal their genuine Kinship Stone but is thwarted. His experiments result in several blighted EX monsters, including an Agnaktor EX that goes on a rampage, destroying his lab and forcing him to flee.

He later steals the egg of the legendary white dragon Vars Pietru and gives it to the rival Cheval, along with an artificial Kinship Stone. This manipulation, combined with Cheval’s inner darkness, corrupts the dragon into the Black Dread, Makili Pietru, causing a catastrophic event. His final fate remains unknown.

In the anime adaptation, he experiences a despair event after past failures, losing all will to research and becoming despondent, occupying himself with stacking cans and eating donuts. Navirou and The Numbers, despite their history, help him rediscover his passion because he holds a clue to the whereabouts of the kidnapped Avinia. This assistance proves crucial for the protagonists.

He is noted as the first human antagonist in the Monster Hunter game franchise, and his actions are referenced in subsequent media, though his ultimate fate is unrevealed.
