Description
Chief Omna is the elderly Wyverian chief of secluded Hakum Village, where humans and monsters coexist through Rider traditions. He presents as a kind, aged figure, often seen walking with a staff, leading the village with a focus on preserving its cultural practices and history. His duties include presiding over critical village ceremonies, particularly the Kinship Rite. This ritual initiates new Riders by enabling them to forge bonds with monsters called Monsties, representing a core aspect of Hakum's identity and its isolation, as these traditions remain guarded secrets from the outside hunter-dominated world.

Omna demonstrates a reasonable and flexible leadership style. When younger villagers like Lute, Cheval, and Lilia break rules by entering the forbidden forest, he responds with warnings rather than immediate punishment, acknowledging their curiosity while stressing safety. Later, recognizing their readiness, he supports their desire to explore beyond Hakum despite concerns from figures like Dan, reflecting his openness to gradual change regarding the village's isolationist policies.

His history encompasses significant village events. Twelve years before the main story, he was chief when Lute's parents died defending Hakum from the threat known as the Black Blight. Following their deaths, he oversaw Lute's integration into the community under the care of Cheval's mother, Vlau. When the Black Blight resurfaces, infecting monsters and causing aggression, Omna coordinates the village's defense, managing responses like the attack by a blighted Nargacuga and supporting the younger Riders confronting the spreading corruption.

Facing escalating threats, such as the emergence of the antagonistic Ebon Riders, he organizes strategic efforts, including rescue missions. He holds meetings to coordinate actions, like the plan to save Avinia, pairing villagers with allies such as the Numbers for effective deployment. Under his leadership during Hakum's most dire challenges, the village's adult Riders make the sacrifice to stay behind and confront the Ebon Riders, protecting the children's escape at the cost of their Kinship Stones. Omna's central role sustains Hakum's resilience, balancing tradition with necessary adaptation throughout the conflicts testing the community.
