Description
Miaouss, known as Meowth in English-language media, operates as a member of Team Rocket alongside Jessie and James. A Normal-type Pokémon, he possesses the rare ability among non-Legendary Pokémon to communicate directly with humans, having taught himself human speech and bipedal locomotion. This skill cost him combat proficiency, rendering him unable to use moves like Pay Day. His personality blends conniving, prideful, and mischievous traits, yet he demonstrates unwavering loyalty to Jessie and James despite frequent internal bickering within the trio.

Within *Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel*, Miaouss joins Team Rocket's initial alliance with the film's antagonist, Alva, a corrupt minister of the Azoth Kingdom. The trio sides with Alva hoping to exploit the situation to capture Ash's Pikachu. Their allegiance shatters when Alva callously removes Magearna's Soul-Heart, reducing the mechanical Pokémon to an inert state. Witnessing this act, Miaouss and his teammates recognize Alva's ruthlessness and turn against him, horrified by his disregard for Magearna's life. In retaliation, Alva ejects Jessie and James from his airship and takes Miaouss hostage.

Held captive by Alva, Miaouss is forced to serve as a translator for Magearna's agonized cries emanating from the extracted Soul-Heart, subjecting him to significant psychological distress. His captivity and torment conclude when Jessie and James successfully infiltrate Alva's fortress to rescue him, demonstrating the trio's deep mutual loyalty despite their villainous pursuits. This rescue underscores their commitment to each other, even when abandoning their primary goal of capturing Pikachu.

Miaouss's background reveals a life marked by hardship and rejection. Abandoned as a kitten, he survived on the streets of a Hollywood-inspired city ("Tinseltown") before joining a gang of feral Meowth. His infatuation with a female Meowth named Meowzie motivated him to learn human speech and upright posture, hoping to win her affection. After she rejected him as a "freak," a heartbroken Miaouss joined Team Rocket. He harbors ambitions of becoming Giovanni's "top cat," a position currently held by a Persian, fueling a persistent jealousy toward that species. He remains a wild Pokémon, refusing capture by any Poké Ball, though he exhibits a partiality to Luxury Balls.
