Description
Illyasviel von Einzbern, known as Illya, is a homunculus created by the Einzbern family as the Holy Grail vessel for the Fourth Holy Grail War. Her parents, Kiritsugu Emiya and Irisviel von Einzbern, abandoned the ritual when she was eight months old. They sealed her magical abilities and Grail-related memories to grant her a normal childhood in Fuyuki City. Raised alongside her adopted brother Shirou Emiya under the care of maids Leysritt and Sella, these suppressed memories later manifested as a separate personality called Kuro (Chloe von Einzbern).

Initially a shy elementary school student who enjoys anime and cute items like stuffed animals, Illya's life shifts dramatically when the sentient Kaleidostick Ruby selects her as its master, forcing her into the role of a magical girl. Tasked with collecting Class Cards containing Heroic Spirit data, she reluctantly becomes Rin Tohsaka's apprentice. During her adventures, she befriends Miyu Edelfelt, another magical girl contracted to the Kaleidostick Sapphire, forming a close bond central to her motivations.

Illya's character evolves significantly. Early on, she shies from battles and longs for an ordinary life. Confronting Kuro, who embodies her sealed memories and Grail vessel nature, forces her to mature. She accepts Kuro as a sister after learning their shared origin, supplying her with mana to sustain her existence. Their relationship deepens in *2wei Herz!*, navigating daily activities like beach trips, cooking contests, and school events while preparing for threats. Illya's protective instincts intensify, especially towards Miyu and Kuro, showcasing her growth into a determined guardian.

Magically, Illya progresses from basic spellcasting to advanced techniques. She masters flight early and learns to "Install" Class Cards, temporarily wielding abilities of Heroic Spirits like Archer and Saber. A pivotal moment occurs during the eighth Class Card incident involving Gilgamesh. She combines Ruby and Sapphire into the Kaleidostick Zwei Form, gaining cosmic wings and immense power at great physical risk. This form enables her to defeat Gilgamesh and rescue Miyu, though it strains her body.

Her relationships define key arcs. She shares a playful, competitive dynamic with Kuro, often bickering yet united against threats. With Miyu, she develops a deep, pseudo-romantic friendship rooted in mutual trust. Her affection for Shirou remains a recurring trait, though less clingy than in other continuities. In later arcs, such as the parallel world conflict with the Ainsworth family, her resolve solidifies: she defiantly confronts impossible odds to save Miyu, embodying an all-loving heroism extending even to former enemies like Angelica.

*2wei Herz!* bridges episodic comedy and impending drama, depicting Illya's daily life—including a beach outing—before transitioning to the eighth Class Card arc. This arc tests her abilities to their limit, culminating in the Zwei Form's debut. Subsequent media, like the movie *Oath Under Snow*, explore her parallel-world counterpart and reinforce her commitment to protecting others, cementing her evolution from a reluctant heroine to a proactive savior.
