Description
Sanae Dekomori is a junior high student and Rikka Takanashi's self-proclaimed loyal servant within the Far Eastern Magic Napping Society of Summer. They connected online two years prior, bonding over shared interests in parallel worlds and chūnibyō fantasies. Petite at 143 cm, she sports blonde twin-tails weighed down by small bags she calls "Mighty Mjolnir Maul," and has blue eyes. Her modified school uniform skirt often features added frills.

Academically gifted, particularly in mathematics, she completed the junior high curriculum early and ranked at the top of her grade in high school entrance exams. This skill earns her popularity among classmates. She consciously separates her eccentric chūnibyō behavior from daily life, acting normally around most peers while fully embracing her role alongside Rikka. Her speech frequently ends with "-desu," deliberately pronounced to resemble the English word "death."

She comes from a wealthy family, sometimes seen arriving in an upper-class sedan with a butler. A key aspect of her past is her online pursuit of "Mori Summer," later revealed as Shinka Nibutani. Sanae rejects this, labeling Shinka "Fake Mori Summer," leading to antagonistic yet complex interactions. Their relationship evolves, featuring accidental kisses, shared beds with demarcation lines, and moments hinting at unspoken care and underlying romantic tension.

Her role develops across the series:
- In Season 1, she aids Rikka's search for the "Ethereal Horizon" while seeking the "real" Mori Summer.
- By Season 2, she serves as freshman class representative at Icho Private High School, balancing leadership duties with her chūnibyō persona.
- In the movie *Take On Me*, she is student council president. Tasked by Rikka's sister Touka to pursue Rikka and Yuuta, she cooperates with Shinka under threat of blackmail involving a compromising photo.

Her character arc involves reconciling her delusions with reality, acknowledging them as intentional fantasies rather than true beliefs. Personal quirks include a strong aversion to milk—which she drinks daily hoping to grow taller—and susceptibility to motion sickness. The weighted bags on her twin-tails contain candy, though she once tried cookies unsuccessfully. Her development reflects gradual maturity while retaining core chūnibyō traits as she navigates relationships and responsibilities.
