Description
Yaya Fushiguro serves as host to the Cat God Shiratama, a bond formed in childhood granting her cat-like ears, a tail, and golden cat-slit pupils. This connection lets her understand feline intentions and exhibit behaviors like napping in high places, avoiding hot water, and forming strong attachments to those offering favored foods like fish. She possesses short green hair, stands 150 cm tall, weighs 43.8 kg, and typically wears hoodies suited to the season.
She relocated to Yuragi Inn after Nonko Arahabaki and Sagiri Ameno, becoming its third resident. Initial distrust of Fuyuzora Kogarashi, stemming from accidental privacy violations, shifted to fondness after he prepared grilled fish for her. Though this attachment resembles being "tamed with food," it remains non-romantic. She demonstrates loyalty by participating in Kogarashi's rescue when kidnapped and healing his injuries with her saliva-based curative ability.
Her powers stem primarily from her bond with Shiratama and other Cat Gods. These include cat physiology (enhanced reflexes, agility, acrobatics), transformation into a small cat, presence concealment masking sound and sight, and summoning multiple Cat Gods for aid. A notable summon is the Divine Beast God Nyanga, channeled through Shiratama. In combat, she utilizes Spiritual Armor—termed "Nekokami Armor"—augmenting her physical capabilities to city-block-level potency and granting feline-themed attire like fur-like bodysuits and boots. Hosting Nyanga significantly increases her capability to multi-continental tier, enabling her to contend with amplified adversaries.
Her relationships extend beyond Yuragi Inn. She befriended Nazuna Higurashi in middle school and formed a new friendship with Shion Todoroki in high school after assisting with a cat rescue. At Yuragi Inn, she respects manager Chitose Nakai and shares a room with Sagiri Ameno. Her closest friendship is with Koyuzu Shigaraki; they engage in magical girl roleplay where Yaya acts as Koyuzu’s familiar, wearing a witch hat and cape in cat form. She maintains neutral ties with Nonko Arahabaki and Yunohana Yuuna, joining efforts to protect the latter when threatened.
Character development includes her initial reluctance around Kogarashi evolving into steadfast loyalty and her expanding network among Cat Gods. For instance, Aramaki, a Cat God initially antagonized by her during the Fukuneko Festival, later answers her summons as an ally. Her role in group dynamics highlights cooperation, such as collaborating with the Ameno cousins against formidable opponents like Ouga Makyouin, though their combined efforts proved insufficient.
