Tōru Taki is a 15-year-old female student attending the same school as the protagonist, born on May 15. She stands 160 cm tall with blood type O, characterized by short dusty blonde hair, light brown eyes, and a frequent gentle expression. Initially shy and reserved due to a yokai's curse, she lived under the threat that the last thirteen names she spoke would be consumed after one year. Though she won an impossible gamble set by the yokai, it refused to honor the agreement. After external intervention lifted the curse, her true personality surfaced: consistently happy, extroverted, and optimistic. She met the protagonist during the curse incident, becoming one of the few humans aware of his ability to perceive yokai, alongside Kaname Tanuma. Taki often expresses concern for his well-being and wishes he would rely more on human support, despite his hesitation to involve others in yokai matters. Her bond with Tanuma formed during school events, and they share mutual worry for the protagonist, hoping to assist him despite risks. Taki wields a unique ability from her grandfather's yokai research. While lacking sufficient spiritual energy to see yokai herself, she meticulously draws intricate "yokai circles." When activated, these allow any human within their radius to temporarily see yokai stepping inside. The circles require no inherent spiritual energy, theoretically making them accessible, but their complexity likely restricts practical use to her alone. She occasionally consults her grandfather's research notes for supernatural aid. She displays a distinctive fondness for unconventional cuteness, particularly toward the protagonist's feline companion. She affectionately calls it "Neko-chan" and often hugs it, though she restrains this impulse during serious situations or when the companion takes a specific female form. Within the narrative, she is one of the primary female human supporting characters in the manga continuity.
