TV-Series
Description
Dr. Spike Taylor is a prominent character who appears in the second season of the anime, serving as the father of the protagonist Max Taylor and a dedicated paleontologist. He is the head of the D-Lab, a research facility focused on dinosaur studies. In his late forties, Dr. Taylor is a muscular man with spiky brown hair and purple eyes, traits he shares with his son. His typical attire consists of a gold shirt with rolled-up cuffs, a brown vest over it, blue jeans, and a cowboy hat, an outfit that gives him a rugged, adventurous appearance reminiscent of a classic explorer.

In terms of personality, Dr. Taylor is highly energetic and enthusiastic, especially when it comes to dinosaurs, which is a passion he shares with his son. This enthusiasm often leads to dramatic outbursts and can be a source of embarrassment for Max. He is known for his quirky habits, such as playing the harmonica well and attempting to use a lasso or whip. However, his aim with the lasso is notoriously poor, and it often gets caught on unintended targets, including people. He also displays unusual tastes, once remarking that dog food "could use a little salt." Despite being a married man, he occasionally tries to flirt with other women, an action that quickly invokes the anger of his wife, Aki.

Dr. Taylor's primary motivation throughout the series is his deep fascination with dinosaurs and a strong desire to possess and partner with one of his own. While he supports the D-Team, consisting of Max, Rex, and Zoe, he is frequently eager to join their adventures in the hopes of finally securing a dinosaur card for himself. His role in the story is often that of a supporting adult figure who provides resources, information, and occasional backup. He maintains a close friendship with his colleague, Dr. Owen. In the second season, his position as a parent and ally places him in direct peril. A key event for his character in this season occurs when he, along with his wife Aki, the Ancients, and the Drake family, is captured by the main antagonist, Zanjark.

His most significant relationships are with his family. He is the husband of Aki Taylor and father of Max. His bond with Max is central to his character, as his overbearing and often embarrassing actions are motivated by a shared love for dinosaurs, even if they cause friction. He is also a good friend and colleague of Dr. Owen, and the two have a ritual of greeting each other with a silly song, much to the embarrassment of the younger characters.

Throughout the series, Dr. Spike Taylor shows development by becoming more directly involved in dinosaur battles, moving from a sidelines supporter to an active participant. While he never owns a dinosaur in the way the children do, his skills are utilized when he obtains Dr. Z's Alpha Scanner. This device allows him to temporarily command powerful dinosaurs like Terry the Tyrannosaurus and Saurophaganax, aiding the team in crucial final battles. Regarding notable abilities, Dr. Taylor is a skilled paleontologist with extensive knowledge of dinosaurs. He is also depicted as being capable in a fight and is quite strong physically. In addition to his lasso skills and harmonica playing, his technical know-how helps the team maintain their dinosaur-related equipment.
