Description
Professor Agasa, whose full name is Hiroshi Agasa, is an inventor who serves as one of the most important supporting figures. He is Shinichi Kudo's next-door neighbor and family friend, and he becomes the first person to learn that Shinichi has been shrunk into the body of a child and now lives under the identity of Conan Edogawa. Agasa makes his living from a wide range of patents and inventions, including video games that the Detective Boys are eager to test. Although many of his creations are impractical or have caused accidents in his home laboratory, his work has been successful enough to support a large house and to fund repairs or rebuilding when needed. He has been a friend of Shinichi and Ran since their childhood, and he attended Teitan Elementary and Okuho middle school. In his youth he met a girl named Fusae Kinoshita, who moved away and later reappears in his life as Fusae Campbell, becoming a recurring personal interest. He also has relatives who shared his fondness for gadgets, including an uncle named Kurisuke Agasa.
Agasa is a jovial, caring, and outgoing person with many friends in his community. He is highly intelligent and holds at least one advanced degree, and he is especially proud of his inventions, some of which have been recognized well enough to be used in official events. At the same time, he has a childlike side, shown in his love of pasta and tomato juice, his remarkable luck at winning food tickets and prize drawings, and his playful but sometimes ignored jokes. He lives alone as a bachelor, yet he is very paternal in temperament and clearly enjoys the company of the Detective Boys, whom he treats almost like surrogate grandchildren. His warm and sociable nature also helps him protect Conan and Ai Haibara, because he is able to explain their presence by claiming they are children of friends and acquaintances.

After Shinichi is transformed by the poison known as APTX 4869, Agasa is the first person the boy turns to, and Agasa responds by advising caution in the pursuit of the Black Organization and by helping Shinichi build the cover identity of Conan Edogawa. When Shiho Miyano escapes from the Black Organization and collapses near his home, Agasa takes her in, learns her true identity, and helps her assume the new identity of Ai Haibara. He also shares Shinichi's secret with Shinichi's parents, Yusaku and Yukiko Kudo, and he becomes one of the few people fully aware of the threat posed by the Black Organization. While he does not confront that organization directly, he actively assists in planning against it and is trusted with sensitive information and tasks.
