Description
Carletto, formally named Tarou Kaibutsu, serves as crown prince of Monster Land, a hidden realm populated by supernatural entities. Dispatched by his father, the Monster King, for ascetic training in Japan, he occupies an embassy within an abandoned castle alongside three loyal attendants: Dracula, who substitutes tomato juice for blood; Wolfman, a culinary expert prone to transforming under moonlight or circular objects; and Franken, a physically mighty but simple-minded gentle giant whose guttural utterances are comprehended by his companions.

Outwardly resembling a human boy, Carletto wields potent metamorphic abilities. He elongates limbs to great lengths for intimidation or pursuit and reshapes facial features by rapid rubbing to assume disguises or locate targets. These powers contrast with his acute vulnerability to thunderstorms and lightning, driving him to seek refuge during such events.

His demeanor reflects royal brattiness: demanding, prone to tantrums when defied, and frequently short-tempered toward his servants. Yet beneath this exterior lies fierce loyalty and protectiveness. He befriends Hiroshi Ichikawa, a nearby orphan living under his older sister Utako’s guardianship. Carletto intervenes in Hiroshi’s life—defending him from threats, covertly caring for his attendants despite harshness, and aiding humans endangered by other monsters.

As a mediator, he resolves conflicts when Monster Land entities disrupt the human world or struggle to adapt. Functioning as an ambassador, he confronts antagonists like Demonish assassins led by Demorina, who aim to usurp him and conquer humanity. His interventions emphasize educating monsters on the repercussions of malice while advocating human-monster coexistence.

A pivotal journey to Monster Land, triggered by his father’s apparent illness, expands his responsibilities. There, Hiroshi suffers petrification after encountering the Monster King. Carletto engages directly in reversing this affliction, navigating his homeland’s complexities and royal obligations amid the crisis. His princely status and duties persistently shape his experiences.
