Carletto, formally named Tarou Kaibutsu, serves as crown prince of Monster Land, a hidden realm populated by supernatural entities. Dispatched by his father, the Monster King, for ascetic training in Japan, he occupies an embassy within an abandoned castle alongside three loyal attendants: Dracula, who substitutes tomato juice for blood; Wolfman, a culinary expert prone to transforming under moonlight or circular objects; and Franken, a physically mighty but simple-minded gentle giant whose guttural utterances are comprehended by his companions.
Outwardly resembling a human boy, Carletto wields potent metamorphic abilities. He elongates limbs to great lengths for intimidation or pursuit and reshapes facial features by rapid rubbing to assume disguises or locate targets. These powers contrast with his acute vulnerability to thunderstorms and lightning, driving him to seek refuge during such events.
