Description
Hanayo Koizumi is a first-year student at Otonokizaka High School and a key member of the school idol group µ's. Born on January 17, she stands 156 centimeters tall and has short brown hair with purple eyes. Her appearance changes slightly when she becomes an idol, as she trades her signature brown semi-rimmed glasses for contact lenses. Her image color is green, and she is part of the sub-unit Printemps.

At her core, Hanayo is extremely shy, quiet, and reserved, often lacking confidence in herself and her abilities. She rarely voices her opinions, prefers to avoid conflict, and typically lets others with stronger personalities make decisions for her. This timidity manifests in her daily life, where she speaks softly, becomes easily flustered by unexpected situations, and is known to cry out a trademark plea for help. Despite these insecurities, she possesses a deeply kind, patient, and considerate nature. She is good with animals and children, a trait shown through her school job caring for the pet alpacas, where her calming presence is uniquely able to soothe the agitated brown male.

However, Hanayo’s personality undergoes a dramatic transformation whenever the topic of school idols arises. She has harbored a passionate love for idols since childhood, a dream she inherited from her mother, who once aspired to be an idol herself. In these moments, her usual shy demeanor vanishes, replaced by an energetic, loud, and extremely knowledgeable enthusiast. Her knowledge of the idol world is second only to Nico Yazawa within the group, but her pure excitement and fervor are unmatched. This fangirling passion extends to a great love of food, especially white rice, and she is known for her ability to eat enormous rice balls with great enthusiasm, often worrying about her weight as a result.

Her primary motivation for joining µ's is twofold: a deep-seated desire to protect her school from closure, which she fears would separate her from her friends, and a long-held wish to pursue her idol dream. Although she secretly admired idols, she lacked the courage to act on her own. Her initial passive interest is galvanized when she watches the first, nearly empty live performance by the second-year students; her presence as an audience member encourages them to continue. Even then, she requires the forceful and loving encouragement of her childhood friend Rin Hoshizora and her classmate Maki Nishikino to finally muster the courage to formally audition for the group, becoming the fourth member of µ's.

Within µ's, Hanayo’s role is initially that of a supportive member who struggles with her own self-doubt, feeling she is just a burden compared to her more talented peers. Over time, she carves out a crucial niche as the group's information specialist, using her encyclopedic knowledge of idol culture to provide insights about competitions and trends. Her most significant relationships are with her two fellow first-years. With Rin, her best friend since childhood, she shares a deeply supportive and reciprocal bond. Rin often speaks for Hanayo and pushes her forward, while Hanayo, in turn, provides a safe space for Rin’s insecurities, famously helping Rin embrace her own femininity. With the more confident and talented Maki, Hanayo finds a friend who believes in her potential, helping her with vocal training and pushing her out of her shell.

Hanayo’s development throughout the series is a gradual journey toward self-confidence. Joining µ's is her first major victory over her shyness. As she works alongside her friends, she learns to draw strength from their passion and dedication, slowly becoming more outspoken and assertive. She pays forward the help she received by becoming a pillar of support for Rin during her moments of doubt. By the end of the story, she has grown enough to accept the responsibility of becoming the next president of the Idol Research Club after the third-year members graduate, a role that would have been unthinkable for the timid girl she once was. While she still retains her gentle, sensitive core, she no longer sees herself as someone who should only support from the shadows, but as a true idol who earned her place in the spotlight.
