Description
Nozomi Tojo is a third-year student at Otonokizaka Academy, having previously served as student council vice-president until Umi Sonoda assumed the role. Though not originally from the Kansai region, she speaks in its distinctive dialect, having adopted it during her childhood there. Her family's frequent moves due to parental work caused social isolation and difficulty forming lasting bonds, leading her to develop tarot card fortune-telling as a tool for quick adaptation and connection. To remain at Otonokizaka, she lives alone in an apartment.
Her personality blends serenity, wisdom, and mischievousness. As the eldest member of idol group μ's, she acts as their spiritual leader, offering guidance and advice through challenges, often using her tarot readings. She maintains a calm, all-knowing demeanor, staying composed in most situations. Yet she also exhibits a playful, provocative side, notably through her "washi washi" habit—sneaking up to grope other members' breasts, particularly targeting Nico Yazawa as punishment or encouragement, most prominently when motivating Honoka, Rin, and Nico to study in Season 1, Episode 7.
Due to her lonely past, Nozomi treasures friendship deeply. Her first meaningful bond was with the equally reserved Eli Ayase, a relationship that became foundational. She covertly supported Honoka’s idol efforts from the start, bypassing Eli’s initial restrictions. After Eli joined μ's in Season 1, Episode 8, Nozomi followed, fulfilling her desire to collaborate with friends. She named the group "μ's" (Muse) after the Greek goddesses, foreseeing all nine members uniting. Season 2, Episode 8 explores her backstory, revealing her earlier shyness and struggle to approach others before μ's formed—a miracle she credits for changing her life.
Her development focuses on emotional growth and leadership. She initially helped integrate members like Maki Nishikino, recognizing Maki's social struggles and facilitating group bonding. As μ's matured, Nozomi shifted from a behind-the-scenes supporter to an active participant, prioritizing collective success over personal desires, such as choosing pre-written songs for competitions. By Season 2’s end, she expresses confidence in the group’s independence, symbolized by her peaceful willingness to graduate, reflecting her role as a stabilizing force.
Outside school, she assists at Tokyo’s Kanda Shrine, complementing her spiritual interests. She enjoys naps and grilled meat (yakiniku) but dislikes caramel. Physically, she has hip-length dark purple hair tied in low pigtails, turquoise eyes, and notable measurements (90 cm bust, 60 cm waist, 82 cm hips). Her image color is violet, symbolizing spirituality and wisdom.
In the manga adaptation, her background differs: she grew up in Akihabara and adopted the Kansai dialect to align with her supernatural interests. Instead of the student council, she was the sole member of the Supernatural Phenomenon Research Society, attempting to recruit Eli. This version retains her fortune-telling and guidance roles but alters her institutional involvement.
