Description
Miana is a secondary character in Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, the second film of the Godzilla anime trilogy. She is a member of the Houtua, a tribe of humans who remained on Earth after the majority fled the planet twenty thousand years earlier. Along with her twin sister Maina, she serves as a shrine maiden of sorts for her people, protecting the egg of their fallen deity.
Physically, Miana has fair skin, white hair, green eyes, and tribal paint markings on her face. She often appears in simple, primitive clothing suited to her people's hunter-gatherer lifestyle. She can communicate both verbally and telepathically, though she initially uses telepathy when encountering the returning human survivors.
Miana first appears in the story when she rescues the protagonist Haruo Sakaki after he is separated from his group and injured. She treats his wound with a medicinal powder. Shortly afterward, she and Maina use their telepathic abilities to interrogate Haruo and his companions about why they burned large areas of land. Once the humans explain they were targeting Godzilla, the twins accompany them as guides and observers, wary but willing to cooperate.
Her primary motivation is to protect her tribe and the natural world they live in. She is cautious of the outsiders and their advanced technology, but she also shows curiosity about them. She and Maina warn the humans that the nanometal they plan to use against Godzilla is poisonous, though this warning is initially dismissed.
During the battle with Godzilla at Mechagodzilla City, Miana and Maina use their telepathy to sense the danger and help Haruo avoid a blast of atomic breath while he pilots a Vulture mech. She remains a supportive presence, acting as a bridge between the Houtua and the human and alien survivors.
Miana's relationship with her sister Maina is central to her character; they are almost always seen together and share a strong bond. She also develops a connection with Haruo, though it is more one of mutual understanding than romance. Her personality is reserved, observant, and protective. She does not openly express anger or hatred, viewing life in terms of either surviving and perpetuating it (winning) or dying and disappearing (losing).
As a Houtua, Miana is adapted to the harsh, Godzilla-dominated ecosystem of post-apocalyptic Earth. She is skilled in hunting and using weapons, including arrows tipped with nanometal. Her telepathy allows her to communicate across distances and sense the intentions of others, making her a valuable ally and a formidable guardian of her people's secrets.
