Description
Aya Maruyama leads the idol band Pastel*Palettes as its vocalist. She attended Hanasakigawa Girls' High School as a second-year student and later enrolled as a first-year student in the Faculty of Humanities at Yotsuba Women's University. She works part-time at a fast-food restaurant with Kanon Matsubara.
Inspired by Ayumi from the idol group Marmalade since childhood, Aya trained for three years to become an idol before being chosen as Pastel*Palettes' lead singer. Though outwardly cheerful and bubbly, she harbors deep insecurities, including a strong desire for recognition that leads her to frequently search online for public opinions about herself. She rarely wears disguises in public due to this wish to be noticed. Aya is sentimental, prone to crying when overwhelmed, and experiences stage fright that hinders her improvisation during live performances. This nervousness often causes her to become flustered and make mistakes during MC duties.
Her appearance features pastel pink hair with wavy ends, typically worn loose but styled in pigtails during performances or training. She has large pink eyes and favors feminine, floral-patterned outfits in soft colors, often accessorized with jewelry. Her winter attire includes an off-shoulder white sweater and pink thigh-high boots, while her summer outfit is a striped dress with lace. Aya stands 156 cm tall. Her birthday is December 27, making her a Capricorn. She likes hamburger steak and omelet rice but dislikes octopus. Her hobbies include social media and perfecting selfies; she always carries a selfie stick.
Aya's journey focuses on overcoming professional challenges. After a poorly received debut due to her stage fright and improvisation issues, she diligently worked to sell tickets for Pastel*Palettes' next show independently. She secretly took magic trick classes following positive reception to a magic show she performed. She maintains a mentor-like relationship with Kasumi Toyama, striving to appear reliable despite her insecurities. Within her band, she shares a particularly close bond with Hina Hikawa, who admires Aya as a source of motivation. Their interactions include movie outings, shared meals, and emotional moments, such as Aya crying when Hina expressed love for Pastel*Palettes. Hina has described Aya as a "star" and finds her cute. Aya relies on Hina's optimism during difficult times.
Additional background notes: Aya has a younger sister, maintains a personal blog, and creates guidebooks like a job manual for Kanon. She struggles academically, especially in math and Japanese language comprehension. She dislikes horror. Aya collaborates with other bands, such as performing a waltz with Maya Yamato. Her name etymology combines "round mountain" (Maruyama) and "colorful" (Aya). In cross-media collaborations, her design has been adapted for characters in *Symphogear*, *Zombieland Saga*, and *Oshi no Ko*.
