Description
Makoto "Uri-bō" Tateuri is the ghost of a boy who was the childhood friend and next-door neighbor of Mineko Seki, Okko's grandmother. He died shortly after Mineko moved away. Following his death, his spirit lingered at the Harunoya Inn, where he continues to reside.

After Okko loses her parents in a car accident and moves to her grandmother's inn, Uri-bō becomes visible to her. He actively encourages her to take on the role of junior innkeeper, motivating her to commit to eventually running the establishment. He provides guidance and support as Okko navigates her new responsibilities, often offering advice during her training.

Uri-bō displays a mischievous streak, such as when he attempts to provoke rival innkeeper's daughter Matsuki Akino by daubing paint on her face. This action triggers retaliation from Miyo, Matsuki's ghostly older sister. Despite this playful behavior, he remains a steadfast companion to Okko, helping her adjust to her new life.

As Okko processes her grief and becomes more cheerful, Uri-bō observes her gradually losing the ability to perceive supernatural beings, including himself. This becomes starkly evident during a critical moment when Okko is overwhelmed by grief after encountering the man responsible for her parents' death, leaving her unable to see or interact with Uri-bō and deepening her isolation.

Ultimately, Uri-bō and other spirit companions move on to their next existence after Okko reconciles with Matsuki and they perform together at the annual Shinto spring festival. Before departing, they convey a message that they will return to visit Okko someday.

His presence at the inn serves as a bridge between Okko and the supernatural world, aiding her emotional recovery and growth throughout her journey.
